Trustees Meet on New Night

The monthly meeting night of Burton Public Library Board of Trustees has changed from Thursdays to Wednesdays. Beginning Jan. 16, the library board will meet on the third Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. on the second floor of the library.

All meetings are open to the public. The library board does not meet in August.

Annual Chess Tournaments At Burton Public Library

The Friends of the Burton Public Library will hold their annual chess tournaments on all Saturdays in February at the Library.

The grades K-5 tournament is Feb. 2 and the grades 6-8 tournament is Feb. 9. Games begin at 10 a.m. and both tournaments are expected to be completed by 1 p.m.

High school students, grades 9-12, will compete Feb. 16 and competition for adults is Feb. 23. Both tournaments begin at 10 a.m. and are expected to be completed by 5 p.m.

Please be ready at 10 a.m. so the tournaments can start promptly.

The tournament is Swiss-type, providing each player with four games. Three certificates will be awarded in each division.

Prior tournament competition is not necessary. Players should bring their own standard chess sets and a snack or lunch and beverage. Players are expected to complete all four of their games.

Players must register in advance. There is no entrance fee required.
