A Burton woman and Rock Creek man were arrested April 9 after they were caught with chemicals believed to be involved in methamphetamine activity.

Elizabeth A. Schneider, 19, of 13805 Ford Lane, and Joseph W. Weeks, 23, were charged with possession of chemicals for manufacturing of drugs, a third-degree felony.

Geauga County Sheriff’s Office detectives learned that Schneider and Weeks were recruiting individuals to purchase pseudoephedrine for the purpose of manufacturing methamphetamine, said Lt. John Hiscox, public information officer for the sheriff’s office.

Schneider and Weeks transported the individuals to the drug stores to purchase the pseudoephedrine and promised them payment for the same, Hiscox said, adding Schneider maintained a log of who had purchased, how much they had purchased and when was the next time they would be able to purchase.

Federal law and Ohio law limit the amount of pseudoephedrine a person can purchase in a month.

Both Schneider and Weeks were given a $2,500 bond, Hiscox said.
