Ashley Brudno, who was assistant treasurer with Orange Schools, is new chief financial officer.

The Chardon Schools Board has hired Ashley Brudno, assistant treasurer with Orange Schools, to be the district’s new Chief Financial Officer, according a news release after Thursday night’s special meeting.

Brudno, who was hired unanimously by the five-member board, will replace Paul Pestallo, who has been serving as Interim Treasurer since October 2013.

Brudno was given a three-year contract that will begin August 1, 2014.  She will begin serving as the district’s Interim Treasurer effective May 5, 2014.

“The task of hiring a superintendent and treasurer are the most important decisions a school board makes,” said Board President David Fairbanks. “We were committed to finding a treasurer with the skills, experience and integrity to carry out the financial operations of the district.”

Former Treasurer Kevin Staller was placed on administrative leave in September of 2013 and then resigned in December because of conflicts with some of the current board, made up of Karen Blankenship, Guy Wilson, Fairbanks, Paul Stefanko and Madelon Horvath.

Brudno began her career in public finance in 2001 as assistant auditor for the Office of the Auditor of the State of Ohio and was promoted to Audit Manager in 2005, the release stated.

Brudno said she was excited to start, saying “Chardon is a great school system and I’m looking forward to being a part of it.”

Brudno graduated from Ohio University in 2001 with a bachelor‘s degree in business administration.  She majored in accounting and holds a current Ohio School Treasurer’s License.  She resides in Geauga County with her husband and two children.
