Newbury Levy to Appear on May Ballot
At Monday’s special meeting, the Newbury Schools Board of Education approved a Resolution of Necessity to place an emergency tax levy on the May 6, 2014 ballot, Superintendent Dick Wagner said Tuesday morning.
The levy, if passed, would raise $1,356,000 annually over a five-year period and provide for emergency funding requirements for the district.
“We are headed into deficit,” Wagner said, adding the district anticipates a $1.1 million shortfall in Fiscal Year 2015.
The next step is for the resolution to be certified by Geauga County Auditor Frank Gliha, who will set the millage amount, estimated at either 8.0 or 8.1 mills.
Subsequently, the board will receive the final figures and pass it at the Jan. 6 board meeting to formally place it on the May 6 ballot, Wagner added.
