Chardon Board Openings

The City of Chardon has openings on the Housing Council, Cable Television Commission, Personnel Board, Tax Incentive Review Council, Public Power Commisison and Board of Ethics Review.

The city also is in need of a resident to serve as a representative on the Geauga Metropolitan Housing Authority.

To be eligible to serve, an individual must be a registered voter and a resident of the City of Chardon.

Anyone interested in serving in one of these voluntary positions should submit a letter of interest to Clerk of Council Amy Day, 111 Water St., Chardon, OH 44024.

Painesville Man Dies In Montville Crash

A Painesville man was pronounced dead at the scene following a one-car accident in Montville about 1:20 a.m. Tuesday morning, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

James Griffin, 22, was driving a 2007 Chevy Impala eastbound on state Route 86 when he drove off the right side of the road, striking a tree near state Route 528.

He was wearing his seatbelt and it is unknown if alcohol was a factor, according to the OSHP press release. The crash is still under investigation.

Geauga County Sheriff’s Office, Montville Township and Middlefield Village fire departments and Ohio Department of Transportation personnel were also at the scene.

Orwell Duo Busted For Meth Possesion

Detectives with the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office arrested two Orwell residences for possession of chemicals for the manufacturing of methamphetamines, a third-degree felony.

Rhonda L. Toke, 48, was arrested after she purchased chemicals to be used in the manufacturing of meth.

Jonathan L. Byler, 26, was also arrested after he purchased chemicals to assist Toke in the manufacturing of meth. He attempted to conceal the chemical in a bush near McDonald’s in Middlefield Village.

Detectives, along with officers from Middlefield Village, assisted in locating the chemicals.

Both Toke and Byler were arraigned in Chardon Municipal Court and received a $10,000 cash or surety bond.
