Partial Settlement Reached In Chardon Shooting Wrongful Death Lawsuits
A partial settlement reportedly has been reached in the wrongful death lawsuits filed following the February 2012 Chardon High School shooting.
Notice of a partial settlement as well as the terms of the agreement were filed under seal in the Geauga County Probate Court, according to a source familiar with the filings.
The families of the three students killed in the shooting — Daniel Parmertor, Russell King Jr. and Demetrius Hewlin — filed the wrongful death lawsuits in the Lake County Court of Common Pleas last year.
Even though the lawsuits were filed in Lake County, the victims’ estates are being probated in Geauga County and Ohio law requires the probate court to approve settlements of wrongful death cases and the division of settlement funds among next of kin.
This is a developing story that will be updated as information becomes available.
