The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office Jan. 16-22. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 251 calls during this seven-day period.

CITIZENS ASSIST

Jan. 17

10:30 a.m., Rosetta Drive, Munson. Complainant requesting a phone call from a deputy regarding the most mild form of abuse his brother can be arrested on. Caller who is en route to his mother’s house has recently learned his elderly mother has allowed his brother to stay with her. The caller believes he is an alcoholic who suffers from seizures. He is concerned for his mother’s safety and does not want his brother at the residence. Depute spoke with the caller. Advice given.

DOMESTIC DISPUTE

Jan. 20

4:26 p.m., Hayes Road, Middlefield. Caller is arguing with mother. Caller states her mother is giving her a hard time about moving out. Nothing physical, no drugs, no intoxication, no weapons. Caller is in her room; mother is in the kitchen. Deputy responded. Verbal dispute between mother and adult daughter due to mother’s disapproval of daughter’s decision to move out of the house. No signs of violence or threats of violence.

SUSPICIOUS

Jan. 16

5:51 p.m., Cutts Road, Hambden. Caller works for Waste Management. He was contacted by Waste Manage-ment call center stating they received a disturbing call from a male. Questions the male asked were, “Can people fit in the plastic or metal garbage containers for the pick up?” and “Do women drive the trucks?” Caller would like to speak with a deputy.

Jan. 17

8:39 a.m., Auburn Road, Munson. Caller woke to find footprints that go all the way around his house and stop at the windows and doors. He also remembers his dog alerting to something around 4 a.m. in the morning and is concerned it may have been an attempted break in. Deputy observed boot prints around the residence. No attempted entry made at doors or windows. Neighbors on both sides did not have prints around their residences.

Jan. 19

9:41 p.m., Valley Road, Auburn. Across the street there is a vacant home. A car stopped by and it looked like someone was walking around the home. The car has left now, unknown direction. Deputy responded. No footprints going to or around the home. Deputies located an unsecure main door to the garage and then an unsecure door leading into the home. Deputies checked the interior and did not find any signs of criminal activity. Deputies were able to secure the doors.

THEFT

Jan. 20

11:56 a.m., Woodbury Drive, Newbury. Subject on scene representing Multi-Source Bank; needs to report theft of copper from a residence that is bank owned, foreclosed on. Deputy spoke with subject who advised the residence went through foreclosure. Upon the bank’s representatives first inspection of the residence, it was discovered that copper pipe had been removed from the basement. Unknown whether the previous owner removed the copper pipe or someone else in between ownership. There were no signs of forced entry and the residence was found secure at that time. Report for insurance purposes only.

Jan. 21

6:12 p.m., Ravenna Road, Newbury. Caller just returned home and found her garage door pried open and they stole a safe with personal belongings in it. All caller’s jewelry was stolen. Unknown when this occurred. Caller left at 7:30 a.m. Suspicious male came to the door last week inquiring about a snowmobile for sale. Caller states there was a couple thousand dollars cash in the safe as well. Deputy advised.

TRAFFIC HAZARD

Jan. 16

7:54 a.m., Springway Road, Munson. Red Levin Furniture truck driving through Bass Lake Community with its back doors open. They are losing items out of the truck. Truck was last seen on Springway. Deputy located Levin truck. Cardboard was picked up.

Jan. 21

7:15 p.m., N. Cheshire St., Burton. Watermain break in the area and there is a backhoe working. Drivers are complaining they cannot see the backhoe until they are almost on top of it. A couple drivers slipped off the roadway to avoid it. Deputy advised. Truck with flashers present, and a generous amount of flares also put up.
