The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office Feb. 20 through Feb 26. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 290 calls during this seven-day period.

CITIZEN’S ASSIST

Feb. 25

11:22 a.m., Merritt Road, Munson. Citizen came on post. Male had a fraud alert and requested information. Male from Minnesota called and stated LifeLock issued him a fraud alert and someone was using his name and date of birth in Chardon Municipal Court. Checked Chardon Municipal Court and Common Pleas Court dockets and did not locate the male’s information. Advice given.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

Feb. 21

3:44 p.m., Main Market Road, Parkman. Male has a bat. He is inside the house. Female is at the BP. Male takes percocets. The caller stated he needs to go to the hospital. He has not hit her at all. He has been on pain meds for two broken ankles. He is on crutches and a wheel chair. He has not been drinking. He is on medication for depression. He has been taking the meds for that. Caller does not think he will fight with the deputies. Deputy responded. Verbal dispute between husband and wife. No violence or threats.

Feb. 23

8:31 a.m., Snow Road, Burton. Female called stating her husband strangled her last night to the point of passing out. He did this in front of her children. The caller is currently en-route to work in Solon and is somewhat resistant to meeting with a deputy. She was advised the deputy would contact her. Female is dropping her children off at daycare and will be en-route to the post.

FRAUD

Feb. 26

12:35 p.m., Chardon Windsor Road, Huntsburg. Male received a ticket from the state of Florida stating that his vehicle had committed an offense and that he owed money. The license plate in the picture matches his vehicle’s plate but it is not his vehicle. Deputy advised. Complainant received a notice from the Florida Department Of Transportation advising he owes $3.80 for an unpaid toll. The registration in the photograph is correct, however, it is not the vehicle registered in Ohio. The picture was unreadable and could possibly be a different state. The complainant provided his Ohio registration and is concerned about fraud. Advised to contact Florida Department Of Transportation, dispute the notice and contact the sheriff’s office if there are future incidents.

SUSPICIOUS

Feb. 20

10:42 a.m., Twin Creeks Drive, Auburn. Subject states she believes someone is in the house. When she came home, the garage door was open and the main door was open. Her purse was moved. She thought she heard someone inside the residence. Complainant is now outside in her vehicle. Complainant is at the club house entrance. Trooper was unable to locate anyone inside the residence. No visible signs of forced entry. Complainant stated that nothing was missing from the residence. Complainant was advised to lock the front door.

Feb. 21

1:26 a.m.,Kinsman Road, Newbury. Suspicious male in a black sedan came into the bar looking for his wallet tonight, however he was never at the bar this evening and is now sitting in his car near the employees’ vehicles. Caller called back and advised another car pulled in to see if the bar was open and the suspicious car started up and left. Deputy arrived on scene and found the employees had already left the business. Deputy checked the area and surrounding businesses and was unable to locate a black sedan.

TRAFFIC HAZARD

Feb. 26

2:50 p.m., Bell St., Newbury. Orange County plow truck almost ran over my foot. I was walking towards my mailbox. The truck had a number 5 on the back. The caller said the plow driver had a hard name to pronounce. When the caller was asked if the plow driver stopped and talked to him, he said no. The caller also said the driver didn’t have a name badge on. When asked how he knew the driver didn’t have a name badge on if the truck didn’t stop, he refused to answer that question. The caller also said the neighbor saw this occur.

WELFARE CHECK

Feb. 26

8:12 a.m., Main Market Road, Troy. Appears an elderly female is living in her vehicle. It looks like her house was crushed by a tree that fell on it. She may be a hoarder. I am a picker and I stopped and talked to her a month ago and she was coherent. It is apparent that her light colored Suburban is continuously running to keep her warm. Her dogs are also in the vehicle with her. When asked if she was interested in selling some of the items, she said, “No, her house is trashed.” Caller is concerned for her welfare and living conditions. Troy Township is aware of the situation. Female refuses any assistance.
