Clara Yoder Byler

MIDDLEFIELD – Clara Yoder Byler, of Middlefield and formerly of Hartville, passed away Thursday morning, Aug. 7, 2014, at Briar Hill Health Care in Middlefield. She was 85.

Clara was born July 9, 1929, in Hartville, daughter of John J. and Emma (nee Miller) Yoder.

She worked at Hartville Locker Service for 30 years.

Clara married Henry Byler on Aug. 29, 1987. They lived 17 years in Middlefield and then in Hartville for 10 years, before coming back to Middlefield.

She was a member of Maple View Mennonite Church in Burton and Maple Grove Mennonite Church in Hartsville. Her hobbies included flower gardening and needle work. Clara was a very caring and compassionate person  who enjoyed sending cards to her friends and relatives.

She will be missed dearly by her friends and family, including her beloved husband, Henry Byler, of 26 years; step-children, David L. (Verla) Byler, of Columbia, S.C., James (Mary) Byler, of Sarasota, Fla., Ellen (Frank) Wilson, of Middlefield, and William (Carol) Byler, of Savannah, Ga.; nine step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; siblings, Lizzie Ann Yoder, Esther (John) Hershberger, LeRoy J. (Martha) Yoder and Leona (Norman) Slabaugh, all of Hartville, Wayne J. (Linda) Yoder, of Fresno, Ohio, and Joseph H. (Janice) Yoder, of Middlebury, Ind.; and sisters-in-law, Dorothy Yoder, of Orville, Mary Ellen Yoder, of Hartville, and Mary Ellen Yoder, of Newport Richey, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers; and two step-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life was held at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 11 at Maple View Mennonite Church, 14890 Burton Windsor Road, Burton Township. Pastor Larry Augsburger officiated.

Visitation was held Aug. 10, 5-7 p.m., at the church and also Aug. 11, 9:30 a.m. until the service time.

Burial was in Maple View Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Maple View Mennonite Church or to the Maple Grove Church in Hartville.
