Jeanne Louise Dewalt Wenzel

CHARDON – Jeanne Louise Dewalt Wenzel, of Chardon, died Sept. 1, 2014, surrounded by her loving family, in Concord Township. She was 91.

Born March 20, 1923, in Mentor, Jeanne lived in Chardon for 70 years.

She was the chief deputy clerk of courts for Geauga County for 50 years, retiring in 1991.

Jeanne was an avid Cleveland Indians baseball fan; she enjoyed bowling and animals.

She was a member of former Ruby Chapter Eastern Star, Chardon, and an active volunteer for the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office “R U OK” program.

Her greatest joy was her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Jeanne was spunky and had a wonderful sense of humor.

She is survived by her daughter, Blythe J. (Leo Elersic) Wenzel, of Munson Township; son, Douglas H. (Jane) Wenzel, of Chardon; grandchildren, Melisa DeMell, of Concord Township, and Heath Wenzel, of Chardon; great-grandchildren, Katie and Timmy DeMell; and step-grandson, Michael J. Elersic, of Las Vegas, Nev.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Edward J. Wenzel, whom she married May 12, 1946, on April 21, 2008.

She also was preceded by her parents, Ralph and Luella (nee Ryder) Dewalt; and siblings, Beatrice Reed and Clement Dewalt.

Private family burial was held in Larned Cemetery, Chardon Township.
