Joseph A. Koziol Sr.

NEWBURY – Mass of Christian Burial for Joseph A. Koziol, Sr., 88, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 29, 2014, at St. Helen Catholic Church, 12060 Kinsman Road, Newbury Township.

Mr. Koziol died on July 22, 2014, at Country Court Nursing Home in Mt. Vernon, Ohio. He was a resident of Newbury for 40 years, after moving from Cleveland.

Joseph was a World War II U.S. Army-Air Corps veteran.

He was a member of St. Helen Catholic Church, where he was an usher, worked on the facilities and helped with Bingo.

After graduating from South High School, he worked as a foreman for Ohio Bell.

He enjoyed watching the Cleveland Browns, working in his garden and spending time with his grandchildren.

He will be well remembered as a hardworking, gracious and good-natured man.

Joseph is survived by children Patrice DeShetler (George), of Powell, Diane Hojnowski (Mark), of Bedford, Joseph A. Jr., of Hiram, Cynthia Koziol, of Worthington, and Deborah Avalon, of Fredericktown; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and brother Richard (Dolores).

He was also the dear uncle and great-uncle of many.

Mr. Koziol was preceded in death by wife, Wanda (nee Malinowski); son Ronald; parents, John and Marcella (nee Mihalak); brothers Frank, Chester, Edward, Henry and John; and sisters, Helen Abramowski and Josephine Tollis.

Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Joseph at The DeJohn Funeral Home & Crematory of Chardon (formerly Ritondaro) 126 South St., from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Monday, July 28. Burial will follow the Mass in Munn Cemetery in Newbury.
