Marguerite Marie Poropat

Poropat, MargueriteAn exceptionally strong and inspiring woman, Marguerite Marie (nee Petrick) Poropat, the beloved wife of the late Stanley Poropat, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2014, surrounded by her loving family.

Marguerite “Marge” was born in Cleveland, on Sept. 13, 1930, to the late Jennie (nee Babich) and Edward Petrick.

She married her high school sweetheart, Stanley, on Aug. 12, 1950.

Marge and Stan were proprietors of Petrick’s Tavern in Euclid, until 1984.

Marge was a lifelong volunteer, having served her community at the Geauga County Senior Center, The Holden Arboretum and University Hospitals.

She was active in the local Slovenian community and enjoyed many polka dances, polka masses and music festivals with family and friends.

Marge especially enjoyed spending time outdoors, which is why she volunteered to hike the blue bird trails at the arboretum, checking on the baby blue birds in their nests.

Marge was a loving mother to Linda (Don) Holle, Ruth (John) Feild, James (Paula) Poropat and Donald (Ann) Poropat; grandmother of 11; and great-grandmother of one.

She was a dear sister of Elizabeth “Betty” Ashley and Dolores “Del” Mekinda-Maaswinkel.

Marge’s positive outlook inspired all who knew her.

Time spent with her family was what she cherished most. Marge was often heard to remark, “This is good.”

Friends will be received 4-8 p.m. Oct. 30 at Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., Chardon.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Oct. 31 at St. Mary Parish, 401 North St., Chardon.

Burial will take place at All Souls Cemetery in Chardon at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Geauga County Department on Aging, 12555 Ravenwood Drive, Chardon, OH 44024.
