FabLab at Burton Elementary

The FabLab from the Great Lakes Science Center arrived May 27 with a number of planned activities for the week for all of the students at Burton Elementary.

The school is collaborating with Kinetico and Great Lakes Growers to build a filtration system for the greenhouse attached to Burton Elementary School. The greenhouse will have plants grown in the soil using hydroponics.

Andrea Lane, a trainer and technology consultant for FabLab technologies, leads the FabLab. She teaches students, teachers and community members how to use a FabLab within a school. Andrea currently attends Lorain Community College and is majoring in mechanical engineering.

The FABLab was at Burton Elementary May 27-30.

State Power of the Pen

Berkshire would like to congratulate Emily Dingman, who competed with more than 750 of Ohio’s most inspired creative writers at last week’s state Power of the Pen competition in Wooster.

To qualify to compete at the state level, Emily attended a district level writing competition against many local schools where she won a coveted Best of Round award for her humorous and delightful story. Emily then qualified for regionals where she managed to rank in the top 30 percent of writers. Congratulations, Emily.
