Teachers Invited to Educator Institute

The BHS team of social studies teacher Hannah Bomback, language arts teacher Jill Jaskiewicz and assistant principal Kelly Timmons have been invited to participate in the fifth Martha Holden Jennings Foundation’s Educator Institute “Teacher Effectiveness to the Nth Power: Moving from “Good to Great” in the fall. The expense-free opportunity will focus on the intersection of solid curriculum, quality instruction and sound assessment practices.

The teachers are excited to gain from high quality job embedded professional development and will be honored as “Jennings Institute Educators” at the conclusion of the last session.

In addition, mathematics teacher Rich Guthrie has been invited to participate in the Jennings Summer Mathematics Institute for grades 9-12 in July. Guthrie will integrate the common core into challenging learning experiences for the students.

The school is grateful for the support and learning opportunities that MJHF provides that enable it to improve upon its teaching practices and ultimately impact the students in positive ways.

Student-Athletes of the Month

Congratulations to Ronnie Simpson and Christin Dornback, Berkshire’s May Student-Athletes of the Month.

Ronnie, a senior track athlete, had a great May. He won the CVC Valley 800-meter run, 4×400 relay and 4×800 and also finished second in the 4×100. At districts, Simpson finished fifth in the 800 and third in the 4×800. The 4×800 team would later go on to finish sixth at regionals.

Christin, a junior on the track team, won the CVC Valley and district 800-meter run and finished second at the regional. Dornback was also the anchor leg of the state qualifying 4×400 and 4×800 relay teams, as well as the regional qualifying 4×200 team. She qualified for state in the 800, 4×400 and 4×800.

Honorable mention for the month of May was Peyton Neumore, a senior member of the softball team.

The Student-Athletes of the month are nominated by the coaches and voted on by the Berkshire administration, faculty, staff and head coaches.
