AVID Classes Visit CSU

Cardinal High School’s AVID classes visited Cleveland State University Nov. 7. Their tour began with an introductory slide show presentation and was followed by a walking tour of campus.

The AVID program is in its second year of implementation. It was started through a grant funded by Race To The Top funding, which the state of Ohio received from the federal government. The state in turn screened programs it felt were innovative and needed by schools in Ohio, which included AVID. The grant Cardinal received covered a three-year time frame.

AVID is an acronym that stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. It is an international program that teaches students critical skills that help them become successful in college and/career.

Spirit Week for United Way

Students at Cardinal Middle School recently had a spirit week sponsored by CMS Student Council. Each day there was a theme.
One theme was Future Careers Day. Students dressed in the outfit that represented the career that they chose.

If the students planned to dress up, they paid a $1 donation to United Way. The money was collected by class. All proceeds donated went directly to United Way.

Students Of The Month

Congratulations to the Cardinal High School Students of the Month for October: Jordyn S., Gillian D., Cameron S. and Peter R.; and November: Nick B., Emily K., Faith B. and Billie Jo A.

Each month, teachers nominate one student from each grade level to be student of the month based on several pieces of criteria. All nominations are then considered and are taken to a vote.

Students of the month show outstanding academic performance or great improvement in their academic performance. Their participation in class enhances the learning environment and they display signs of leadership and citizenship. They are involved in extracurricular activities and/or community service and exhibit exemplary behavior both in and out of school.

As a reward for their outstanding performance at Cardinal High School, students of the month are treated to a luncheon at Pizza Hut where they celebrate earning such a high honor. At the end of the school year, they will receive a certificate of recognition at the annual awards ceremony.
