Charting Plant Growth
The fourth-grade students in Mrs. Christine Nemecek’s science class have been using the school’s rural campus to chart plant growth. Each group of children record plant growth and take pictures of the changes with the iPads.
The sixth-grade students in Mrs. Brinkman’s math class utilize the rural campus to reinforce math concepts outside. Mrs. Christine Brinkman creates a scavenger hunt with math problems. She places math problems around the campus grounds and has students find the math problems, solve the problems and compare answers with other students.
The kinesthetic learning experience is a creative way to reinforce new math skills while strengthening the students’ short and long-term memories.
The fourth-grade students in Mrs. Colleen DiSanto’s class use many methods to learn fractions, including math fraction bar manipulatives. This method allows the students to visually compare many different fractions and how they relate to each other.
