Dear Readers,

Hi! My name is Shelby, and I am the senior captain of Ledgemont’s basketball cheerleaders.

This season, we have seven basketball cheerleaders — myself, Maddie, Dakota, Jenna, Kaylee, Jill and Ariel. We have three seniors, two sophomores, and two freshmen. We will all cheer for the varsity game and take turns cheering for the junior varsity team.

Ledgemont is a school full of pride. We are one family with strong hearts. Most of the students are very athletic, and many of us play more than one sport.

Some people play three sports. I, myself, played volleyball and cheer for basketball. In the spring, I have played softball. We just finished our volleyball season, which was very suc-cessful as we fin-ished with a record of 19-4. It went by so quickly.

It’s hard to believe it is time for basketball season!

We started practicing last Monday and Tuesday.

On Wednesday, the boys’ basket-ball team held a “Red and White Scrimmage” fundraiser. The basket-ball team divided into a red and a white team, and they scrimmaged each other.

We split our cheerleading team into two teams as well. The seniors cheered at one end of the court and the underclassmen cheered at the other end.

One side cheered for the red team and one side cheered for the white team. It was funny, because we were both cheering for the Redskins! Our coach said it was a friendly competition, and after we cheered for the first game, all the cheerleaders sat together and watched the different activities.

At half-time of the first game, the teams held a three point contest, just like you see the NBA. The finals came down to a shoot-out between basketball players, Austin and Brad, and one of our wrestling alumni, Tyler Kepes.

When the final buzzer sounded, Austin was declared the winner having completed the most three-pointers. The team also held a 50-50 raffle, a basket raffle, and the concession stand was open for dinner.

We hope that the boys earned enough to help with their participation fees and make some of the purchases they need-ed for the season.

It was fun for us to be able to cheer together so early in the season. The whole team doesn’t know all of the cheers yet, but we used the ones that we had practiced.

The different teams also performed two big cheers in front of the crowd. It was great to see so many parents and students come out and support our boys’ basketball team.

As for the cheerleaders, I know we have an awesome team this year! I am excited to see what the future has in store for all of us! We are loud and proud! We are Redskins! We are family!

LHS cheerfully yours,

Shelby
