Julia R. Bargas

AURORA - Julia R. Bargas, of Aurora, previously of Middlefield, died Jan. 23, 2012, at Anna Maria of Aurora. She was 96.

Born in Springfield, Ill., on Aug. 14, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Trinidad and Marie (nee Jacobs) Lopez. On May 30, 1930, she married John Bargas, who preceded her in death in 1992.

A homemaker, Mrs. Bargas was a resident of Middlefield the past 20 years, formerly living in North Canton. During World War II, she was employed at Goodyear Aircraft in Akron, where she was known as "Rosie The Riveter."

Mrs. Bargas was a member of The United Methodist Church in Middlefield.

Survivors include her children, Michael (Brian Bethune) of Cleveland and Carmen Kulgoske of Auburn Township; and grandchildren, Carmen and Julian Bargas.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Frank "Pope" Lopez and Jack Lopez; sister, Carmen " Mellie" Nerrvo; and son-in-law, Earl Kulgoske on Dec. 8, 2010.

Funeral services were held Jan. 27 at the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service in Mantua. Fr. Chris McCann officiated.

She was laid to rest at Sunset Hills Burial Park in North Canton.

Dennis K. Roeder

On Jan. 24, 2012, Dennis Roeder said good-bye to his daughter, Emily, and stepdau-ghters, Kayla, Julie, Lizzie, Katie and Rach-eal, wearing no shoes and carry-ing his guitar with the taste of Ginny's kiss on his lips as he went to play the big gig in the sky.

Dennis was a registered nurse for the past 26 years and was employed by Heath Hill- LTACH for seven years. His nursing career supported his true love of music.

He was the co-creator of Marion Avenue Band with Jason and Erin. Dennis loved to share his knowledge of music with anyone willing to learn. He lived for his trips to Florida, where he could put his feet in the sand and jam with his friend Billy.

He is also survived by his brother, Gene Roeder of Willoughby; and cousin, Cathy Durst of Kirtland.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Edith Roeder.

A celebration of life was held Jan. 27 at the Burr Funeral Home in Chardon.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the family.

Cheryl K. Anguish

WINDHAM - Cheryl K. Anguish, of Windham, passed away Jan. 28, 2012, in Warren. She was 60.

She was born Feb. 16, 1951, in Dennison, Ohio, to William Sherill and Vivian (nee Boor) Anguish.

Cheryl worked at Geauga Industries for 28 years. She enjoyed reading, painting, crossword puzzles, bird watching and spending time with her beloved nieces and nephews and her dog, Ginger.

She is survived by her siblings, Gary (Kaye) Anguish of Carrollton, Donna (Richard) Newsome of Parkman, John (Melody) Anguish of Howland and James Anguish of Warren; dear friend Nancy Shipley of Windham; and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held Feb. 2 at 11 a.m. at Longview Cemetery in Bowerston, Ohio.

Carol J. Jackson

BURTON - Carol J. (nee Brown) Jackson, of Burton, passed away peacefully on Jan. 29, 2012, at Briar Hill Health Care, Middlefield. She was 80.

Born June 18, 1931, to Bruce and Mildred (nee Bowen) Brown, she was one of 15 children. She was a lifelong resident of Burton, where she graduated from High School and worked at the Post Office in Burton until she retired.

Carol was a member of the Congregational Church and the Burton Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary, where she was past president. Her hobbies included, crocheting, sewing, baking, canning, bird watching and gardening, especially her roses.

She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, William. She will be dearly missed by her daughters, Helen (Jim) Safranek of West Farmington, Pat Tutsock (companion, Sam Warren) of Newbury; son, William (Caryn) of Columbus; grandchildren, Christopher Safranek, Jennifer (Rob) Wadas, Kathy (James) Taylor, William and David Jackson; great-grandchildren, Nicholas Safranek, Ariana and Sophia Wadas; four sisters; two brothers; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers; two sisters; and son-in-law, Gary.

A special thank you goes to the staff of Briar Hill and Hospice for their loving care.

A gathering of friends and family will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Feb. 11 at Russell Funeral Service in Middlefield.

Chester A. Day

MIDDLEFIELD TWP. - Chester A. "Buffalo" Day, of Middlefield Township, died on Jan. 27, 2012 at University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center in Claridon Township. He was 74.

Chet was born March 23, 1937, in Franklin, N.J., the son of Kenneth Day and Lucy (nee Norman, Day) Kinnard. Chet moved to Middlefield in 1974 from Stockholm, N.J., and married Carol VanderMaas on Jan. 19, 1980.

Chet was a volunteer fireman in New Jersey and a carpenter. His favorite hobby was his Buffalo, which later became his business, Daydream Bison & Western Store in Middlefield Township for 15 years. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, riding his motorcycle and more recently, traveling.

He will be missed dearly by his friends and loving family, including his wife of 32 years, Carol; sons, Steven (Lorraine) of Stockholm, NJ., Russell (Wendy) of Vernon, N.J., and Randy of Chaumong, N.Y.; stepdaughter, Mary (Scott) Anderson of Middlefield, and stepson, Tod (Kristen) VanderMaas of Burton; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service and tribute to his life will be held 2 p.m. Feb. 4 at the Middlefield Volunteer Fire Station Hall, 2nd floor, 14870 N. State Ave., Middlefield.

Victoria Scarlett Rayne Mingus

BURTON VILLAGE - Victoria Scarlett Rayne Mingus, newborn daughter of Matthew and Cassandra (nee Duffy) Mingus of Burton Village, died Jan. 17, 2012, at St. Vincent's Mercy Hospital in Toledo.

She was born Jan. 17, 2012, in Oregon, Ohio.

Victoria lived for eight hours in the arms of her loving parents before she was taken home to be with the Lord and her grandfather.

In addition to her parents, survivors include her grandmother, Bonnie (nee Lewis) Duffy of Walbridge, Ohio; grandfather, Robert Duffy of Millbury, Ohio; grandmother, Connie (nee Hissom) Mingus of Windsor Township; great-grandmothers, Mary Wilkolek of Walbridge and Evelyn Duffy of Oregon, Ohio; and aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Eugene Mingus.

Private family services were held.

Judith Kelly

BURTON - Judith "Judy" (nee Bates) Kelly, of Burton, died Jan. 30, 2012, at Burton Healthcare Center. She was 73.

Born Oct. 9, 1938, in Painesville, Judy resided in Huntsburg Township before moving to Burton in 1997. Judy Bates married Kenneth Kelly March 12, 1960, in Painesville. He preceded her in death Aug. 24, 1996.

Judy worked for 20 years as a clerk for Vijac Wholesale Pet Supply in Huntsburg Township.

She enjoyed traveling, taking Anderson Tours bus trips and camping. An avid seamstress, she made most of her children's clothing and taught sewing as a 4-H advisor and was a Cub Scout den leader.

Judy enjoyed crocheting, cooking and baking. She loved to arrange flowers and over the years, arranged them for several weddings. Her fondest memories were playing games with her family: Yahtzee, Uno, dominos, bingo, Michigan Rummy, Bunko and Pinnacle.

Judy loved music and attending the Great Geauga County Fair to hear the high school bands.

She is survived by her children, Kathleen Kelly, Adrianne "Andy" (Michael) Swan of Hartville, Brian (Becky) Kelly of Middlefield and Erin (David) Rock of Burton; grandchildren, Brooke (Reggie) Rios of Los Angeles, Jake Novak of Akron, Andrew Swan of Hartville, Kaitlyn Kelly of Middlefield, Patrick Swan of Hartville, Kourtney Kelly of Middlefield and Amy Swan of Hartville; and siblings, Fred (Priscilla) Bates of Painesville, Patricia Spangler of Boise, Idaho, and Robert Bates of Fairport Harbor.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Kelly; and parents, Wallace and Marjorie (nee Kaminski) Bates.

A memorial service will be held Feb. 4 at 1 p.m. at Chardon Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 110 Woodiebrook Drive, Chardon. Darren Redd of Chagrin Falls Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses will officiate. The family will receive friends from noon until the time of the service at Chardon Kingdom Hall.

Private family burial was held.

Milo S. Schlabach

MESOPOTAMIA - Milo S. Schlabach, of Mesopotamia, entered eternal rest Jan. 30, 2012, at home surrounded by friends and family. He was 90.

He was born Sept. 7, 1921, to the late Sam and Ada (nee Byler) Schlabach. He is now reunited with his loving wife, Mary, with whom he shared 63 years, four months and 23 days.

He was a lifelong resident of the Mesopotamia area and a member of the Old Order Amish Church.

Milo was a retired farmer. He enjoyed gardening, being a carpenter and was an overall handyman. He also cherished spending time with his family and friends.

Milo is survived by his daughter, Esther (Dan P.) Hostetler of Middlefield; siblings, Catherine Yoder, Naomi Yoder and David Schlabach; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; two brothers; and one sister.

Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Feb. 2 at Dan P. Hostetler's residence, 14631 Hayes Road, Middlefield Township. Bishop David J.S. Miller will officiate. Visitation will be anytime until the time of services.

His final resting place will follow in the Wilcox Road Cemetery in Mesopotamia Township.

Raymond R. Bosler

CHARDON - Raymond R. Bosler, of Chardon, passed away Jan. 29, 2012. He was 84.

He was born March 26, 1927, in Evansville, Ind., to the late Raymond M. and Mildred (nee Roettger) Bosler. He was married to the late Suzanne for 57 years.

A proud graduate of Brush High School in 1945, Raymond went on to graduate from John Carroll College. He was the general manager and vice president of Bird Electronic Corp. of Solon, retiring in 1992 after 35 years. He was also part owner of Scientific First, Inc.

Raymond earned a number of medals in his proud service with the U.S. Merchant Marines in World War II and the U.S. Army. He loved fishing, golf, woodworking, playing cards and listening to big band music.

His gentle spirit was present in his work with Boy Scout Troop 190 and in the St. Vincent de Paul Soup Kitchen.

Survivors include his children, Robert J. (Kathy) of Middlefield, Marybeth (Ray) Humphreys of Sarasota, Fla., Michael (Mary) of Plant City, Fla., Christopher (Amanda) of Burton, Sarah (Eddie) Bowman of Madison, Maureen (Fred) Pavlick of Chardon and Thomas (Edie) of McClure, Ohio; 21 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Marian Kampman of California; and many nieces and nephews.

A Requiem Mass will be at 11:30 a.m. on Feb. 3 at The Queen of the Holy Rosary Church, 291 Scoville Drive in Vienna, Ohio. The family will receive friends Feb. 2 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Ritondaro Funeral Home, 126 South St. in Chardon and Feb. 3 from 10:30 a.m. to the time of the Mass at the church.

Burial will take place at Crown Hill Cemetery in Vienna.

James L. Coburn

CHARDON - James L. Coburn, of Chardon, died Jan. 30, 2012, at University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center in Claridon Township. He was 83.

Born May 19, 1928, in Lonaconing, Md., he lived in Eastlake and Painesville before moving to Chardon in 1994.

Mr. Coburn was a machinist at Ohio Rubber. He served during the Korean Conflict in the Army.

James enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Elsie A. (nee Arno) Coburn.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Feb. 2 at the Burr Funeral Home in Chardon. Visitation is from 3 to 4 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Burial will take place in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
