Snow-Covered Roadway Claims Life of Newbury Woman

A Newbury Township woman was killed early Sunday evening when the vehicle she was driving slid off the road and struck a tree in Auburn Township.

A Newbury Township woman was killed early Sunday evening when the vehicle she was driving slid off the road and struck a tree in Auburn Township.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s preliminary investigation shows Jessica Knautz, 28, was driving a 2012 Ford F-350 pickup truck southbound on Auburn Road near Crackel Road when she lost control on the snow-covered roadway, traveling off the right side of the road and sticking a tree on the driver’s side.

Troopers responded to the crash scene at approximately 7:40 p.m.

Knautz was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other occupants sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to nearby hospitals, according to the state patrol.

All occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

It is unknown at this time if alcohol was a factor in the crash, the patrol said..

Auburn, Troy and Mantua fire departments were on scene assisting.

The Chardon Post of the highway patrol is still investigating the crash.
