Chester Road Department Superintendent Mike Farrell gave trustees updates on both the Hickory Street and Reserve Lane drainage issues; the road department and Geauga County Deputy Engineer Nick Gorris are working on setting a date to clean an area of backed up water so the Geauga County Engineer can view pipes and recommend possible solutions. Also, there was an update on the repairs on the Gradall and discussion regarding use of an excavator.

In fire department business, the board moved to accept the resignation of firefighter/EMT-paramedic (FF/P) Eli Shreve effective Feb. 21. Trustees approved and signed the collective bargaining agreement between Chester Township and Ohio Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association effective Jan. 1, 2019, through Dec. 31, 2021.

In new business, the board moved to approve not objecting to a liquor permit pursuant to an institution notice for liquor permit from the Ohio Department of Commerce/ Division of Liquor Control that was issued to Above Board Ventures LLC dba Buckstop Bar & Grille, 8491 Mayfield Road. Also, the board moved not to request a hearing with the Ohio Division of Liquor Control for a transfer of liquor license from 8053 Mayfield Road LLC dba Pueblo Real 8053 Mayfield Road, Chester Township to ABRIL2RMZ LLC, dba La Mexicana Cantina & Grill at the same address.

The township disposed of old office furniture per ORC 515.10 (A) (7), they were of no value and broken. Trustees approved on the recommendation of the Fiscal Officer Craig Richter to distribute the health care discount that was received from the health care provider to all the employees that take part in the township health benefits.

The Chester Planning Committee plans to give the trustees an overview of the proposals for a comprehensive plan for the center of the township that the committee has received at the March 14 Trustees meeting.

CareWorks, the township’s workers compensation administrator, will be giving a presentation at the March 28 meeting. Also, trustees will give the final budget review for the 2019 permanent appropriations, which needs to be sent to the Geauga County Auditor by April 1.

In addition, the West Geauga Recreation District has an opening for a three-year term that will expire April 30, 2022. Anyone interested should contact town hall, the township website or one of the trustees.

An executive session was held at the end of the meeting regarding discussion of employment and compensation of a public employee. On return to public session, no action was taken.
