More than $13,000 was raised for Geauga County veterans on Oct. 10 when the Rotary Club of Burton-Middlefield held its second extremely successful Geauga Jeep Invasion.
As many as 200 Jeeps met at the Mayfield Drive-In early Sunday morning. Each was greeted by the Geauga County Veteran Food Pantry with coffee and donuts. The Boy Scouts from Troop 99 presented each with a goody bag including bottled water donated by Sunrise Springs. The Jeeps filled the parking lot and waited.
At 10 a.m., led by Geauga County Sheriff Scott Hildenbrand, the almost-mile-long parade headed east on state Route 322, south through the Geauga Park System, passing through Middlefield and Burton and then travelling northwest to be greeted and pass under American flags at the Geauga County Veterans Memorial on Ravenwood Drive, which were proudly presented by ladder trucks from the Chardon and Munson fire departments.
