Community Pays Tribute to Those Lost in Nazi Attack

On the night of Nov. 9, 1938, members of Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler’s Sturmabteilungen and Schutzstaffel — the SS and SA — and members of the Hitler Youth burned hundreds of synagogues, damaged Jewish households and vandalized thousands of Jewish-owned stores, smashing the storefronts and shattering the glass windows.

On the night of Nov. 9, 1938, members of Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler’s Sturmabteilungen and Schutzstaffel — the SS and SA — and members of the Hitler Youth burned hundreds of synagogues, damaged Jewish households and vandalized thousands of Jewish-owned stores, smashing the storefronts and shattering the glass windows. Modern estimates of the death toll from beatings and assaults reach into the hundreds.
