Claypool Appointed to County Planning Commission

At their regular meeting Dec. 13, Geauga County Commissioners Ralph Spidalieri and Tim Lennon voted to appoint Commissioner Walter “Skip” Claypool, whose term ends Dec. 31, to an open seat on the county planning commission.
“I have an interest in that seat depending on what the interest of the board is,” Claypool said.
He abstained from the vote.
Claypool also suggested the re-nominations of planning commission member Chester Miller and Chairman Charlie Stevens.
Lennon said while Stevens has done a great job as chair, visiting other counties and seeing how their planning commissions work has left him wishing Geauga County did more.
In other counties, planning deals with tourism, airports, centralizing township and municipality planning efforts, and marketing, Lennon said. He hopes to see Geauga move in the same direction.
”I’m pretty excited what the future potential could be,” he said.
Claypool agreed, adding he sees the opportunity for more comprehensive planning across the county.
Claypool’s term on the planning commission begins Jan. 1 2019 and runs through 2021.
