Three Amish boys were injured when the buggy they were in was struck by a van on Nauvoo Road in Middlefield Township early Sunday morning, according to a tweet from NE Ohio Scanner.

The horse and buggy apparently pulled out of a driveway near 16349 Nauvoo Road  shortly after midnight into the path of a van. The boys were ejected from the buggy and NE Ohio Scanner, which monitors police and fire radio in the region, reported one was pinned under the van.

Emergency helicopters took the victims, one of whom sustained life-threatening injuries, to University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center, according to the report.

Ohio State Highway Patrol told WJW-TV Fox 8 Cleveland the buggy failed to yield to a gray 2009 Chevrolet Express van westbound on Nauvoo containing 10 passengers.

All of the occupants of the van were treated at the scene for minor injuries, according to Fox 8’s online story.

As of Sunday, OSHP was still trying to identify the boys and alcohol was believed to be a factor in the accident, according to Fox 8. The condition of the horse was unknown at the time and the accident remains under investigation.

NE Ohio Scanner reported emergency medical service squads from Burton, Hambden and Windsor fire department attended the scene.
