Preston Auto donated $25,000 to the Hilltopper Strength and Training Center committee as the school works to building a new weight room.

“We are extremely happy,” said Terry Hegner, the fundraising chair of the fundraiser. “Pat Preston and his family have been generous supporters of numerous Chardon high school and other community projects and we are deeply grateful for their help.”

Hegner said the committee has raised $170,000 so far with more pledges yet to be collected.

Equipment has been ordered and installation will begin in August, Hegner said. Construction is underway to level the floor, paint the room and complete other projects, Hegner said.

The original goal of 2022-23 has been pushed back because of supply chain issues and delivery schedules.

“We think it would be great for the high school state champs to get a state of the art gym for all students to use,” said Jackie Preston Franck. “My dad (Pat) was excited to hear about the improvements and jumped on the chance to help get the fundraising going.”

“Chardon is a city of champions and their weight room doesn’t measure up to the talent they have,” Pat Preston said. “We are happy to help make their new weight room become a reality!”
