Riders Express

The last few months the Riders Express 4-H horse club has done some great stuff. Members had their annual holiday party and kicked off the new year right with its first meeting. In February, the club went to the The Weil’s in Bainbridge for Valentine’s Day to help the residents decorate some festive cookies.

For those who think they might want to join the club, it is based out of Bainbridge, but it has members from Chagrin Falls, Auburn, Chester Township and Burton, as well as other communities.

The club plans to do some more community service and fun club bonding.

Geauga Dairymen

Geauga Dairymen 4-H Club held its first meeting of the year on Feb. 27 at Zip City in Kent. The members enjoyed zip lining, rock wall climbing and pizza for dinner. They introduced the club’s new member Jack. The meeting was very fun.

The club met again March 6 at Berkshire Hathaway at 3:30 p.m. Seven members attended. They painted the front window to promote 4-H. After they finished painting the window, they held the meeting in the conference room in the back with food and drinks provided.

Members started the meeting off talking about something new has happened to each of them. After that, they read the minutes, which got approved. They read the treasurer’s report and current balance. They also talked about Dairy Palooza and how all members are encouraged to go on May 2 at Trumbull County Fairgrounds in Cortland. Members also discussed Hoard’s Dairymen and the 2014 prizes. The 2015 Hoard’s Dairymen answers are due on March 19.

Members elected new positions for the new year. Maddi is the new president. The group also talked about the constitution bylaws and the club’s insurance. The club decided that it would do the candy bar sale again to earn money for the club. Members also talked about Camp White Wood and scholarships there. Maddi strongly encouraged the members to go to this camp.

Lastly, club members talked about another yard cleanup this year and it is open for discussion next meeting. The next meeting will be held at Emma Niehus’s house on April 12.

Geauga Beef and Swine

Geauga Beef and Swine had its first 4-H meeting of the year on Feb. 8. The club did pledges, roll call and went over minutes. A treasurer’s report was given on the club’s balances. There was no Junior Fair board report yet, but they would be voting on this year’s fair theme that week.

The sales meeting was Feb. 12 and it was decided that Gavin Gower would go to the meeting to represent the club’s vote. The Ohio 4-H Youth Development Club Constitution was approved.

Members met again on March 7 to set up the window display at Mapledale Farms.

The club met again at the Pizza Hut in Chardon on March 8. Members decided how much money the club will give to the Family-A-Fair project run by the Ride with Pride 4-H Club. Also, OSU Junior Swine Day will be on March 28 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. (Submitted by Zachary Frank, news reporter)
