Audit Committee Opening

The Hambden Township Audit Committee is seeking a resident who would be interested in serving on this committee. The audit committee meets only three to four times a year and is responsible for reviewing township financial reports.

It’s not a huge time commitment, but whoever applies should be detail oriented and be willing to spend time reviewing reports prior to the meetings. If anyone is interested and would like more information, contact Fiscal Officer Laura Chorman at the township hall at 440-286-4364.

12 Days Of Christmas

The Nest is a vintage chic home decor shop owned by Stephanie and Kevin Talty, Hambden residents who have gone all out for the holidays.

During their 12 Days of Christmas, Dec. 9-23, there will be amazing savings each day. Be sure to check them out. The shop is at 520 Water St. in Chardon.

Bryant’s Forever Green

Bryant’s Forever Green Landscape and Garden Center opened in 2004. Terri and John Bryant have a beautiful holiday shop that will be open through Dec. 24. They feature handmade greenery arrangements, including centerpieces, wreaths, swags and mantelpieces. They will also custom make an order to one’s specifications.

They have pine roping/garland, fresh cut Frasier fir Christmas trees in sizes from 3 to 14 feet as well as live Christmas trees that can be planted in the yard after the holidays. These include white pines, blue spruce, Frasier fir and Serbian spruces.

They also have indoor plants such as poinsettias, Christmas cactus and amaryllis.

Bryant’s is located on Route 6 just a quarter mile east of the township hall. Open April through December, hours are Sunday, 11 a.m. to 4p.m.; Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Please check out all they have to offer and help support local businesses.

Christmas Tree Sale

Hambden Fire Department is selling beautiful, fresh cut Christmas trees. It is a very important fundraiser for the fire department and residents look forward to it each year.

The lot is open from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily and there is a beautiful selection to choose from. They only have 100 trees to sell this year so get there early to make a selection and help support the local fire department.

Winter Reminders

Just a couple of reminders for winter snow plowing: Please do not push snow out into the road or across the road when plowing the driveway. It is not only illegal, but can also be very dangerous for other drivers and mail delivery.

When one piles the snow up around mailboxes, it can make it very difficult to deliver the mail as well as contribute to destruction of mailbox posts. The township is responsible if the plow truck actually hits the mailbox, but not if it is broken by flying snow. The more snow around the post, the more to fly up and cause damage.

If a mailbox is hit, the township will reimburse the resident $35 or install a new standard mailbox/post. The mailbox must be damaged beyond reasonable repair to be eligible for a new one. The road department superintendent will make this determination. The township hopes everyone will have a safe winter.

No Dogs Allowed

As much as the township does not like limiting access to any township properties, trustees must ask residents to stop walking their dogs in the township cemetery. Many residents have complained about the situation and the fact that some people are not cleaning up after their dogs. There are plenty of places in the township park to walk dogs. Signs will be posted in the cemetery.

Got News?

We always like to hear from our residents. If you have something you would like to let your friends and neighbors know about, whether it is a new business, meeting or special occasion, email Nadine Pope at popemi@roadrunner.com. I would especially like to hear from residents about any holiday events at businesses that our neighbors would not want to miss.
