Congratulations

On May 10, Munsonite Kimberly Dorka, daughter of Michael and the late Cynthia Dorka, graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor of arts in early childhood education from the University of Mt. Union.

Memorial Day Service

Munson Township’s annual Memorial Day service will be held at 8:30 a.m. May 26 at Maple Hill Cemetery. The special commemoration of our military veterans includes an invocation by Pastor Curtis May of Peace Lutheran Church; presentation of colors, Pledge of Allegiance and reading the names of veterans interred in Munson cemeteries by Munson Boy Scout Troop 91; recital of the Gettysburg Address by Pastor Roy Williams and much more. Guest speaker will be Geauga County Sheriff Dan McClelland.

Celebrate Recovery

Morning Star Friends Church, 12550 Ravenna Road, Munson, will hold its next Christian 12-step addiction recovery meeting on May 28 at 7 p.m. The meeting will be preceded by fellowship and a meal served at 6:15 p.m.

Free Sunday Dinner

St. Luke Episcopal Church, 11519 Wilson Mills Road, Munson, will offer a free Sunday dinner June 1 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Fellowship Room.

There will be a choice of soups, breads and desserts.

Donations are not necessary, but are appreciated. To help prepare or serve the dinner, or for more information, call 440-285-4641.

At the Senior Center

The AARP Smart Driver Course will be held June 4, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., at the Chardon Senior Center, 12555 Ravenwood Drive, Munson. This is a new AARP course being offered for the first time this year.

The cost is $15 for AARP members and $20 for nonmembers. Checks should be made payable to AARP. For reservations, call 440-279-2131.

Please note: The Chardon Senior Center will be closed May 26 in observance of Memorial Day and will be open May 28 for Senior Day all other sites will be closed.

Shutterbugs Camera Club

The Shutterbugs Camera Club will meet June 5 from 7-9 p.m. at the Geauga Park District’s West Woods Nature Center. There will be an instructional session and friendly critiques of members’ photography work.

Summer Camp at NDCL

Registration is now being accepted for summer camps for elementary students entering grades 3-8 at Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin, 13000 Auburn Road, Munson. Sports camps include a variety of sports for boys and girls.

Historic Tidbit

Memorial Day originated shortly after the Civil War in Petersburg, Va., to honor those who lost their lives in the Civil War and was celebrated on various dates in the South and on May 30 in the North. Memorial Day is now observed nationally the last Monday in May.

Fly the beautiful flag of the United States on May 26 (at half-staff until noon) and give thanks to those who have given so much for our beloved country.
