University Hospitals Donations

University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center has donated a new defibrillator to the Munson Fire Department. The donation was presented by Dan Ellenberger of University Hospitals to fire Chief Mark Lynn at the recent trustees meeting. University Geauga’s donation program is an effort to make sure every community emergency medical team has up-to-date equipment used to save lives.

CASA’s Child Advocates

CASA for KIDS of Geauga County (Court Appointed Special Advocates) is recruiting volunteers to advocate for abused and neglected children involved in juvenile court. Volunteers must be at least 25 years old and have no criminal record. Couples may work together.

CASA staff provides 37 hours of pre-service training by the juvenile court, which continues after appointment, to serve as guardian ad litem. An application and interview must be completed prior to training.

Friends of WomenSafe

Raffle tickets are now available for a six to eight night Royal Caribbean Diamond Cruise for two or $2,600 in cash. Cruise choices are Caribbean, Bermuda, Canada or Alaska anytime other than the weeks of Christmas or New Year’s Day.

Drawing will be held Sept. 28, 2015. Tickets are $10 each or three for $25.

Friends of WomenSafe, Inc. is an all-volunteer organization working to raise funds for WomenSafe.

Proceeds benefit the free services and shelter offered to victims of domestic violence at WomenSafe’s Green House on Ravenna Road in Munson.

Al-Anon Meeting

The next meeting of Al-Anon (Alcoholics Anonymous) will be held Dec. 12 from 8-9 p.m. at St. Luke Episcopal Church, 11519 Wilson Mills Road in Munson. Help and support are offered to those seeking to end an addiction to alcoholic substances.

At the Senior Center

A daytime New Year’s Eve party will be held at 10 a.m. Dec. 31 at the Chardon Senior Center, 12555 Ravenwood Drive, Munson. Catered by Cuisine by Design, there will be live music by the Downtown Band. Cost is $15 per person and reservations must be received by Dec. 18 at the Chardon Senior Center.

Also, at the Chardon Senior Center, at 10:30 a.m. Dec. 16, the bell choir and senior theatre will perform, and on Dec. 18 at 10:30 a.m., Geauga Renaissance and Chardon High School’s Free Harmony choir will offer a Christmas concert. Reservations are not necessary for either event.

The Chardon Senior Center will be closed Dec. 25 and 26 for the Christmas holiday.

Geauga Walkers

The Geauga Walkers will have a holiday hike at noon Dec. 16 at the Geauga Park District’s Rookery on Rockhaven and Cedar roads in Munson. The one and one-half mile hike will be followed by a potluck lunch at 1 p.m. and a program at 2 p.m.

Join the GANG

The Geauga Arts Network Group will hold its holiday party and sing-along at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 16 at Heinen’s Cafe on Center Street in Chardon. Well-known musician Nicky Bucur will lead the sing-along and the event will be hosted by playwright Joanne Durante.

Munson Scholarships

Munson Township is offering a minimum of two $500 scholarships to high school seniors graduating in June 2015. To be eligible, the student must be a Munson resident, have a cumulative GPA of 3.0, a 22 ACT or 1000 SAT score and plan to attend an accredited two or four-year college, university, trade or technical school in the fall of 2015.

Applications are available at all area high schools, the Munson Township Hall and online at www.munsontwp.com. The scholarships are funded by proceeds from Munson’s annual Community Day and private donations. For more information, call 440-286-9255.
