What’s A Little Free Library?

Four Little Free libraries, built by Walker Chieffe of Boy Scout Troop 102 to earn Eagle Scout rank, have been installed in Geauga Park District and are ready for the public to use.

Books in the weather-proof libraries are free for everyone so long as a book is left to replace it: “Give a Book, Take a Book,” as the good neighbor slogan goes.

Locate them next time one is out at Frohring Meadows in Bainbridge Township, Observatory Park in Montville Township, Orchard Hills Park in Chester Township and Chickagami Park in Parkman Township.

Walker, 18, of Bainbridge Township, held book drives to gather books of all types to start up the libraries.

Swim With The Fishies

Discover Underwater Life Through Snorkeling on Aug. 30 from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m., 12:45-2 p.m., 1:45-3 p.m. or 2:45-4 p.m. at Walter C. Best Wildlife Preserve, 11620 Ravenna Road in Munson Township.

Snorkeling at this beautiful preserve maxed out its registration last year, the first year it was offered.

Registration and a $25 fee for snorkel instruction by Just Add Water is required for this rain-or-shine opportunity for ages 8 and older. Bring your own equipment and wetsuits, or they will be provided.

Win A Car

Geauga Park District is among The Nature Conservancy’s Natural Treasures.

The park district has again teamed up with The Nature Conservancy in Ohio and Honda to help residents experience the outdoors in a new way. Now through Sept. 30, Ohioans can enter the sweepstakes to win a new Honda Civic Hybrid at http://nature.org/naturaltreasures.

Each time one visits one of the 21 sites listed on the website – including Burton Wetlands Nature Preserve – enter another entry into the sweepstakes. However, only one entry is allowed per site.

Participants may also enter to win the new car by showing off their own personal natural treasure. Upload a picture of oneself taken at one’s favorite place in nature. Only one entry per personal spot is allowed, as well.

Burton Wetlands Nature Preserve in Burton Township is a 305-acre parcel that includes the Charles Dambach Preserve. Located within the upper Cuyahoga River watershed, Burton Wetlands was officially dedicated in 1999 as an Ohio State Nature Preserve.
