Job Shadowing Initiative

On Dec. 11, the Berkshire class of 2015 was informed about the new job shadowing program being offered at Berkshire Junior-Senior High School. Language arts teacher Meghan Hull and social studies teacher Hannah Bomback reviewed the requirements and expectations for a job shadowing experience that will start in May.

If a student’s academic requirements necessary for graduation are in order, the senior may begin his or her job shadowing experience May 8. Seniors who participate will be working at a business during the school day until graduation. Securing a business or nonprofit organization to participate and completing the application are due Feb. 6, 2015.

Teaming Up For The Holidays

Berkshire Junior and Senior High School student councils, along with Interact, teamed up for a stocking/toy drive this year to benefit families in Geauga County. The groups got together for a Christmas party, where students generously stuffed 25 stockings to take over to the Burton Food Cupboard.

Each student also brought in a toy to place under the tree in the library. The toys will be taken to Geauga Job and Family Services to be distributed to families in need throughout the county.

Career Education Event Scheduled

On Jan. 6, the Geauga Growth Partnership (GGP), Great Lakes Cheese and the Berkshire, Ledgemont and Newbury schools have partnered to host a career event at Kent State’s Geauga Campus. The purpose of the event is to refine their resumes and practice interviewing with human resource professionals in Geauga County.

Students will use their Career Locker online accounts to complete sample job applications and work on their resumes. The day will begin at 8:10 a.m. and end at approximately 1:45 p.m.

Speakers include Lori Gorrell from Upward Solutions and Christian Kline from Company 119. The Geauga Growth Partnership internship program will also be presented.
