Post Your T Basketball Game

Good luck wishes go to Craig K., Luke T. and Jake F. who have been invited to play in the “Post Your T” Indiana vs. Ohio all-star basketball game on April 4 in Knightstown, Ind.

PostYourT.org is the producer of all-star games that honor and showcase top players from all four classes – not just the “super stars.” It helps high school boys and girls display their athletic talents via its games. It’s mission is to help these athletes get into college the games help to connect them with college coaches. PostYourT.org is particularly interested in good kids that play sports, but are “under the radar” and could use a leg-up. It’s games give all the players a chance to shine and be honored. Good luck, Huskies.

One School, One Book Readers

Students in Mr. Anderson’s third-grade class at Cardinal Intermediate School had two “celebrity” guests read to them the week of March 16. Both Middlefield Police Chief Joe Tucholski and Middlefield Mayor Ben Garlich took time out of their busy days to stop by and read a chapter out of “The World According to Humphrey.”

All students in the elementary and intermediate schools are reading the book for the One School, One Book reading project.

Students Create Rube Goldberg Machine

Students in Mrs. Avalon’s and Mrs. Casavecchia’s seventh-grade math and science classes put their classroom lessons to the test in creating a Rube Goldberg machine. Students followed design requirements in place for the Goodyear STEM Career Day Rube Goldberg machine contest to create their contraption.

“We were really proud of how the students came together as a team to satisfy all of the requirements laid out in that particular contest,” says teacher Sharon Cassavecchia. “It’s not an easy task, and even though we weren’t able to have our design on display for the Goodyear contest, students kept at it, skipping lunches, staying late, doing whatever it took until the machine worked just right!”

According to Webster’s New World Dictionary, Rube Goldberg is a comically involved, complicated invention, laboriously created to perform a simple operation. Goodyear was challenging classes to design a Rube Goldberg machine utilizing science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) principles to fill a Goodyear Blimp.

Cardinal students will have their Rube Goldberg machine on display and provide demonstrations at the State of the Schools address on April 30.

State Of The Schools Address

Cardinal Schools will hold its annual State of the Schools address on April 30 in the middle school cafeteria. Refreshments and displays will be available from 5:30-6 p.m., with the formal address beginning at 6 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

CIS Academic Rally Assembly

Cardinal Intermediate School held its third quarter Academic Rally on April 1 in the gymnasium. Third-graders had their rally at 9:30 a.m., followed by the fourth-graders at 10:45 a.m.

Students received certificates for academic achievement in the third semester of the school year. The rallies also helped motivate students to continue their hard work in the classroom during the final part of the school year.

Outdoor Fundraiser A Success

The Huskie Nation Foundation held a very successful fundraiser at the Outdoor Sportsman Raffle at the Middlefield Market. Money raised will assist in the first part of construction costs.

Within the next couple of weeks, O Sports will be completing the architectural drawings for the new concession stand and bathroom facility. Construction on this phase of the project should begin this spring with the hopes of having the new facilities completed in time for the start of the 2015-16 school year.
