Family Movie Night

March 17, 6:30 p.m.

All are welcome to First United Methodist Church of Middlefield’s free family movie night with free popcorn and drinks. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with a popular 2016 movie starting at 6:45 p.m. Running time is 1 hour 47 minutes. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Grange Chili Cook-Off & Auction

March 18, 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Huntsburg Grange is holding its 17th annual St. Patrick’s Day chili cook-off and Chinese auction in the Huntsburg Gym, located at the corner of routes 322 and 528.

Enter chili for cash prizes for first and second place. Event also includes free Grange cake, live music, games, cakewalk, raffles and vendor show.

Aububon Debunks Myths About Bats

March 21, 7 p.m.

Blackbrook Audubon will offer a free program on bat biology and the benefits of these misunderstood mammals at Penitentiary Glen, 8668 Kirtland-Chardon Road in Kirtland. Marilyn Levand, wildlife education manager at Lake Metroparks Wildlife Center, will describe the ways bats help farmers and homeowners alike by eating their weight in insect pests nightly.

The program’s featured guest will be Echo, a big brown bat animal ambassador from the Wildlife Center. Attendees are invited to bring donations of items or gift cards needed at the Center. For a detailed wish list, visit lakemetroparks.com and search Wildlife Center.

Free Networking Event

March 22, 7:30-9 a.m.

Leadership Geauga and the Burton, Chardon, Chesterland and Middlefield chambers of commerce will host “Creating Business Success Through a Healthy Workplace” at Munson Township Hall, 12210 Auburn Road.

Enjoy a free networking breakfast followed by a panel discussion beginning at 8 a.m. Panelists include representatives from Integral Life Center, University Hospitals and Kinetico, Inc.

Geauga Beekeepers Meet

March 23, 7 p.m.

The Geauga County Beekeepers will meet in the main lobby at the Kent State Campus at 11141 Clairdon Troy Road in Burton.

Mary Cluts and Eleanor Spirka will present and answer questions on entering baked goods for the Geauga County Fair in September.

Audubon Travels East

March 25, 9 a.m.

Blackbrook Audubon will venture to Presque Isle State Park in Erie, Pa. Meet at the first pull-off on the right side after entering the park from Route 832. Birders will hope to see early songbirds as well as migrating waterfowl. The park has recorded 330 species of birds.

Bluegrass Jamboree

Fool’s Raffle and Pig Roast

Pet First Aid

April 1 and 2, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Cold Nose Companions Training Center is offering a Pet First Aid certificate course at its facility located at 12531 GAR Highway, Chardon. Students attend only one of the two days.

Space is limited and advance registration is required. Cost is $125 per person and includes all course materials and certificate. Registration is open to both pet owners and pet professionals.

GCRTA Luncheon

April 4, 11 a.m.

The Geauga County Retired Teachers Association will hold its luncheon meeting at United Methodist Church, 515 North St. in Chardon. Gathering time will be followed by the business meeting at 11:30 a.m. and an Italian themed lunch at noon.

Guest speaker Bill Jackson, from The Century Village, will present “The Days of Little Mountain.”

Cost is $18, which includes a $1 donation to the Grant-in-Aid Fund. Reservations and payment required by March 26. Make checks out to GCRTA and mail to: Judy Miller 17130 Kinsman Road, Middlefield, OH 44062. Call Judy at 440-487-4324 with any dietary restrictions.

Church Rummage Sale

April 6-8

Christ Covenant Church, 16406 Kinsman Road in Middlefield, is holding a rummage sale to benefit Charity Children’s Ministry. Hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 6 and 7 and 9 a.m. to noon on April 8.

There will be door prizes, a bake sale and Easter candy.

STIHL Chainsaw Safety Seminar

April 6, 8:30-11 a.m.

Alvord’s Yard & Garden Equipment in conjunction with the Munson Township Road Department will hold a STIHL Chainsaw Safety Seminar at Munson Township Hall. Sign-in is at 8:30 a.m., with the presentation from 9-11 a.m.

The seminar will offer classroom and hands-on learning with technique review and new product information. Anyone who would like to learn chainsaw safety, including homeowners, townships, villages, cities and landscape companies, is welcome.
