Sheriff’s Report
June 15, 2017

The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office June 2-8. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 403 calls during this seven-day period.

EXTRA PATROL

June 3

7:27 a.m., Huntley Road, Huntsburg. Due to the road closure on 322 for the next 20+ days, there is an increase in people driving down Huntley Road. The road is 35mph but they are driving at much greater speeds. Complainant put a Facebook post up along with a video. She has spoken with the Sheriff’s Office before asking for increased police presence but has not heard or seen any response. This is an all day occurrence of speeders.

SUSPICIOUS

June 4

4:39 p.m., Kinsman Road Marathon, Newbury. Deputy located a black BMW parked by the dumpster at the back of the building. Deputy spotlighted the vehicle and there did not appear to be any occupants. Deputy went into the store to see if the owner was inside shopping but did not locate anyone. Deputy asked the clerk if he knew who the vehicle belonged to. The clerk advised he did not. Deputy went back out to the vehicle and knocked on the window at which point two males sat up. Both males appeared to have been sleeping for some time. Deputy asked for ID and had dispatch run both males who came back clear. The males told deputy that they were from Holmes County and on their way to Middlefield to visit family. The males said that they decided to pull over and sleep for a while because it was too early to show up at their families house.

June 6

10:36 p.m., Georgia Road, Burton. Someone is in the barn; caller can hear a cell phone in the hayloft. Deputy entered the hayloft and did not find anyone there. Female stated she believes she heard a cell phone, but did not actually see anyone in the hayloft.

VANDALISM

June 2

7:03 a.m., Owen Road, Parkman. Someone did donuts on Owen Road. The county just graded the road and now it is torn up again. The caller would like a deputy to follow the ATV tracks and find the person that tore up the road. Deputy checked the area. Unable to find an ATV in the area or on the roadway. Extra patrol needed for the area.

WATER RESCUE

June 6

12:56 p.m., Lake LaDue, Auburn. At the north end of the lake a boat is sinking. No one is in the water. One male is still in the boat trying to bucket water out of the boat. He is up against the breakwall. Appears that the back corner maybe sinking in. Close to the boat launch ramp. Subject is trying to ore it in. Deputy assisted the boater. Found there were no issues.
