Geauga Dems Summer Events
The Geauga County Democratic Party has planned several summer events for the community.
The monthly hot topic “Changing Faces and Cases – Elections Matter When it Comes to the Judicial Branch, Too!” is on July 20 at the Geauga County Democratic Headquarters and Social Hall located at 12420 Kinsman Road, Newbury. Doors open at 6:15 p.m. for networking and desserts and the hot topic begins at 7 p.m. Judge Terri Stupica and the Honorable Mary Jane Trapp will discuss recent and future Supreme Court decisions and the crisis of opioids and heroin on local court systems.
The annual steak roast is Aug. 5 at 6 p.m. at the headquarters. Call for reservations. Keynote speaker is Charlie Brown, former West Virginia secretary of state and brother of U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown.

CV Herb Society Field Trip
July 21
The Chagrin Valley Herb Society will take a field trip to Kent State Draime Estate Gardens in Warren to have a guided tour of the diverse garden designs and sculptures. Reservations are required and the fee is $10.

Fundraiser Rib Dinner
July 21, 6 p.m.

Chardon Kiwanis Food Drive
July 21, 7-9 p.m.
The Chardon Kiwanis Club will be accepting donations during the Concert in the Park on Chardon Square. Donations can be brought to the donation table and may include nonperishable food items, toiletries and cash. All donations will be given to the food pantry at the Pilgrim Christian Church.
People are encouraged to come out to enjoy contemporary Christian genre by Reign Forecast.

Protect Geauga Parks

Protect Geauga Parks will host a Shelter Sound-Off and Geauga Parks birthday celebration at Walter C. Best Preserve, Sunset Shelter, 11620 Ravenna Road, Chardon.
A short discussion will be facilitated to allow time for all who want to make a comment. Cards will be available to write comments.

Hearts 2 Hands
July 23, 10 a.m. to noon
Hearts 2 Hands family fun day and cookout will be held at Chesterland Community Seventh-Day Adventist, 7480 Mayfield Road, Chester Township. The event features free burgers and hot dogs, medical screenings, Hearts 2 Hands Prayer Team and games.
The community outreach is comprised Prince of Peace, Morning Star Friends Church and Chesterland Community SDA. Hearts 2 Hands will host a distribution of taxable goods, which are personal care items that aren’t available via food stamps.
GOP Women’s Summer Picnic
July 23, 2-6 p.m.
The Geauga County Women’s Republican Club’s annual summer picnic will take place at Munson Township Park, 12641 Bass Lake Road. Cost is $10 per person or $20 per family. There will be a children’s fishing pond; catch and release only.

WG Girls Soccer Camp

The West Geauga High School girls soccer team along with coach and Cleveland Ambassadors team captain Kori Chapic and Danny Cappelucci are hosting a soccer camp for all players entering second through eighth grades. Camp includes a T-shirt and two tickets to a girls home game.

Chesterland Golf Outing

The Chesterland Rotary and Chesterland Chamber of Commerce golf outing and barbecue will be held at St. Denis Golf Club, 10660 Chardon Road, Chardon.
Registration is at 8:30 a.m. Cost is $125 per golfer and includes golf, lunch, drinks, barbecue dinner, entry into cash prizes and more.

Concert In The Park
July 26, 7-9 p.m.
The Clear Fork Bluegrass Quartet performs at the gazebo in Chester Township Parkside Park.
Paul Kovac, who has headed Clear Fork for more than 25 years, is a well-known musician and teacher. This four-piece acoustic band plays Bluegrass, acoustic country songs, hot instrumentals on fiddle, banjo and mandolin, Americana and more.
Free popcorn will be provided along with pop and water at nominal prices.

Antique Power Exhibition
July 28-30, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Geauga County Historical Society and the Historical Engine Society will hold the 47th annual Antique Power Exhibition on the grounds of Century Village Museum in Burton.
On display will be demonstrations of various types of antique machinery, such as steam engines, stationary and portable gas engines, tractors, excavating and construction equipment, grain threshing, cars and trucks and blacksmithing. There will also be a parade of machinery through downtown Burton at 10 a.m. Saturday, children’s rides on Murphy’s Railroad and open house tours of Century Village’s restored homes and shops.
The featured tractor maker is Case Tractors. A 1960 Case 430 Diesel tractor will be raffled off during the show.
Friday is preview and set-up day with reduced admission. Admission is $2 Friday and $6 Saturday and Sunday. Admission for children 6-12 years old is $3. Children under 6 will be admitted free.

Scrap Tire Collection
July 29, 8 a.m. to noon
Troy Township will host its annual scrap tire collection event in the parking lot behind the Troy Community House, 13950 Main Market Road. Bring identification to verify Troy Township residency; IDs will be checked.
Passenger vehicle and small truck/SUV tires only. No semi or tractor tires accepted. A maximum of eight tires per household will be accepted. Tires must be off rims.
The event is made possible through a grant received from the Geauga Trumbull Solid Waste Management District. For more information, call the township at 440-834-8614.
Tenth Annual Dice Run
July 29
Chardon Post 6519 will host the 10th annual Dice Run. Sign up begins at 10 a.m. at the Chardon Post, 752 Water St. First bike out is at 10:30 a.m. and last bike out at 11:30 a.m. Last bike in is at 4 p.m.
Complimentary snacks will be provided at five stops with open cash bars. All stops are VFW or American Legion posts.
Event includes 50/50, pull tabs, doors prizes and a grand prize. Directions and maps will be provided at sign-in.
GCRTA Annual Picnic
Aug. 1, 11 a.m.
The Geauga County Retired Teachers’ Association will hold its annual picnic at Munson Township Park, 12641 Bass Lake Road. Gathering time will begin at 11 a.m., followed by the business meeting at 11:30 a.m., and picnic lunch at noon.
Guests are asked to bring a dish to share. Nancy Speck’s pulled pork sandwiches and beverages will be provided or bring your own.
After the program, there will be an introduction of all newly retired teachers, a presentation of the Grant-in-Aid award recipients, live music, 50/50 raffle and free lunch raffle.

Chardon VFW 6519 Events
Chardon VFW Post 6519 will host Taco Wednesdays every Wednesday in July from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Enjoy soft or hard tacos for $1 each or taco salad for $2.
It will also host summertime happy hours Monday through Friday from 2-5 p.m. Enjoy discounted beer, wine and specialty drinks. See the canteen staff for information.
Flea Market Vendors Wanted
Auburn Community Church, 11076 Washington St., is hosting an outdoor flea market Aug. 5 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Rain date is Aug. 12.
Vendors and individuals wanting to have a garage sale are encouraged to participate. Spaces are 25 feet wide and deep enough for tables as well as two standard-sized vehicles. Vendors must furnish their tables and chairs and to clean out the site at end of sale. Cost is $25 per space.

Civic Club Ox Roast
Aug. 5, 12:30-6 p.m.
The sixth annual Community Ox Roast sponsored by the Bainbridge Civic Club will be held at Centerville Mills Park, 8558 Crackel Road in Bainbridge. Proceeds benefit Bainbridge Area Food for Friends and the club’s Kenston High School Scholarship Fund.
There will be entertainment throughout the day, including a bounce house and carnival games for children, music, various Kenston organizations, police and fire department information booths and other surprises.
New this year is an exhibit of antique cars, including Ford Model A and T, old tractors and trucks. Owners of these types of vehicles are welcome to participate for free.
A fun run around the former campgrounds will start at noon. Register by 11:30 a.m. and receive meal and T-shirt.
Presale tickets for adult meals are $17 through Aug. 4. A child’s hot dog meal is $6. Tickets sold on Aug. 5 are $22.

Tickets are now on sale for Geauga Growth Partnership’s fifth annual HomeGrown Geauga fundraising event at ASM International in Russell Township.
The evening features fine food by signature chefs, open bar, entertainment, music by No Moss, silent auction, raffles and a virtual reality journey.

Next Step Reverse Raffle

The third annual Next Step Reverse Raffle will be held in the Bond Building at the Geauga County Historical Society, 14653 E. Park St. in Burton. Tickets are $60 per person and include dinner, wine, beer, cash bar and music. Side boards available and grand prize is $3,000.
Sponsored by Geauga Kiwanis Clubs, proceeds benefit Next Step, a community-based program providing housing in Middlefield and case management services for Geauga County adults 18-24 who are homeless and at risk.

Edward and Lucy Parish will host the ninth annual Chicken Dinner and Car Show, rain or shine, at 16150 Center St. in Parkman. Event features classic cars and trucks, Chinese auction, raffles, bingo, DJ Cory and family horse racing.
Tickets for the barbecue chicken dinner are $11 for adults and $6 for children 10 and under.
Donation of $10 requested for car show entries. Goodie bags and dash plaques given to first 100 cars. Three prizes will be awarded along with a $200 gas card, compliments of Best Funeral Home. Drawing at 4 p.m. Winner must be present. Door prizes awarded every 15 minutes.

Golf Outing

Chardon United Methodist Church is hosting a golf outing to benefit the 2018 mission team from the church to Guatemala with Orphan Resources International. The scramble will be held rain or shine at St. Denis Golf Club, 10660 Chardon Road in Chardon. Registration is at 9 a.m. followed by a 10 a.m. shotgun start.
Fee is $110 per person, or $400 per foursome, and includes greens fees, cart, lunch at turn, fajita dinner bar and desserts. Cash bar will be available. Dinner only tickets are $35.
