Sheriff’s Report
The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office July 28 to Aug. 3, 2017. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 386 calls during this seven-day period.
AGENCY ASSIST
July 29
8:01 p.m., Radcliffe Road, Hambden. Lake County deputies on scene at residence, recovered a stolen gun. Approximately 15-20 long guns recovered by LCSO in Lake County. LCSO secured all the evidence and made contact with GCSO deputy for follow up.
ANIMAL PROBLEM
Aug. 2
8:36 a.m., Nash Road, Parkman. In the area for a raccoon with a can stuck on its head walking in the roadway. Unable to locate.
ASSAULT
July 28
7:11 p.m., Orchard Road, Munson. A group of teens jumped my son in our drive and stole his phone. They left toward Wilson Mills in a white vehicle. Son states he knows two of the boys. Mother relayed all information and said they threatened to come back and harm them. Deputy advised. Painesville will check Mountainside. Report taken.
CITIZEN ASSIST
Aug. 2
4:14 p.m., S. Dayton Street, Bainbridge. Male in lobby at GCSO. Male stopped at the sheriff’s office because his nephews and niece, 8 or 9 and younger, were fighting in the car. I spoke with the kids and asked them to behave.
CITIZEN DISPUTE
Aug. 3
10:40 a.m., GAR Highway. Caller said that the mechanic will not give her vehicle back. Caller was hard to understand due to language barrier. Deputy advised. Dispute over vehicle repairs. Assisted the caller in coming to an agreement with auto shop. Will transport the caller to the auto shop. Monitored payment for and release of vehicle. No further issues.
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
July 28
3:52 p.m., Nicki Lane, Hambden. Male will meet at the clubhouse. He has kids and very reluctant to call. His wife hit him this morning and his eye has a mark. She has been violent toward him before, but he has not reported it. One female arrested; report to follow.
FRAUD
Aug. 2
2:09 p.m., McCall Road, Parkman. Female in the lobby to report fraud that occurred July 30. Spoke with complainant in the lobby. She was leasing a home in Parkman to a tenant with the option to buy. Tenant was relocated to Chicago for work and was also behind on rent. They made an agreement that he pays $1,000 and they would be even. He wrote her a check and postdated it Aug. 1. She went to her bank and had them check to see if the funds were in the account to cover the check and they advised her there was not enough in the account. Complainant said she contacted tenant and he told her money would be in account as soon as she provided check number, but was advised by the bank not to give him the number because he could them stop payment on the check. Civil matter. Advice given.
6:19 p.m., Farmington Road, Parkman. Male in lobby to make report for scam. Male received random nude photos from a female that said she was 16 years old. A day later, the girl’s “father” called and asked for $800 to change the phone number of he would go to the police. Deputy spoke with the “father” and told him to go to the police where he lived in North Carolina to file a report. “Father” said he was at the police station and again asked or the $800 or charges would be filed. Advice given. It was determined it was a scam. No money or personal information was given.
6:37 p.m., Radcliffe Road, Hambden. Female in lobby to report identity theft. Someone rented an Enterprise rental car in the caller’s name and failed to return it. Report taken.
INDECENT EXPOSURE
Aug. 2
3:51 p.m., Dewey Road, Montville. Report of a naked person standing in front of the road. Checked area. Nothing observed.
SUSPICIOUS
July 29
4:06 p.m., Broadwood Drive, Burton. Caller states he found a pop bottle in his yard with a strange fluid in it. He would like it checked out; does not appear to be under pressure. The fluid is yellow. It may be urine, but the caller is unsure. Suspected “one pot” meth lab located, brought to meth container. Deputy advised and will handle.
10:13 p.m., Woodin Road, Hambden. Caller is reporting someone drove by and threw spaghetti sauce all over their vehicles. There is glass in the roadway. Jar of spaghetti sauce and gravy were thrown from road into driveway. Some sauce did splash onto vehicle in driveway. Complainant did not have any suspects and stated the family has not had any recent issues with anybody.
July 31
9:40 a.m., Claridon Troy Road, Burton. An employee found a gun across from Hubbard. It is a handgun. Meet at Urban Growers and the employee will point it out. Item in question was a plastic toy gun. Party advised.
Aug. 3
10:35 p.m., Park View Drive, Newbury. Three large, orange glowing objects moving from south to north in the sky. Caller states they make absolutely no sound. UTL/GOA.
THEFT
Aug. 2
11:13 a.m., Ravenna Road, Auburn. Various lawn equipment and chainsaws sometime in the last two nights. He just noticed it.
Aug. 3
8:57 a.m., Chardon Road. Owner would like to make a report for theft at the store. Has camera footage. He advised he also had guns stolen from his residence. Report taken.
