Library Bond Issue
In regards to the coming bond issue the Geauga County Public Library is putting forth: Libraries are institutions of freedom.
The written word is our legacy to pass on to the future. Generations before us have recorded stories and information vital to our success today. As we continue to move into the digital age, libraries have become even more important.
It is the librarians who are cataloging and, in most cases, digitally preserving those words of the past so the generations that follow can have the same opportunity to pursue happiness.
Libraries provide a place to educate ourselves regardless of age or social standing. There is freedom of knowledge and exchange. The freedom to ask and answer without scrutiny is vital to the growth of any community, and the library is our safe haven. Without this place of free speech and free thought those who value their privacy could truly lose out on the autonomy we have come to enjoy. A library is the very definition of patriotism. Truly a right we are not willing to lose.
A vote to support our local libraries is a vote to protect our freedom of information.
