Free Clothing Giveaway
Sept. 8-10
A free giveaway of clothing for the family, household items and holiday decorations will take place Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturday from 9-10 a.m. at Celebration Lutheran Church, 10621 Auburn Road in Chardon. The event is free to all.
This ‘N’ That Rummage Sale
Sept. 8-9
St. Mark Lutheran Church, 11900 Chillicothe Road, Chester Township, will hold its annual This ‘n’ That Rummage Sale. Hours are Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. All proceeds benefit local and worldwide ministries as well as congregational needs.
GEL Breakfast
Sept. 8
University Hospitals Chief Executive Officer Thomas F. Zenty III will present “An Update on Healthcare: The Future is Closer Than You Think” at the next Geauga Economic Leadership (G.E.L.) breakfast at Kent State University at Geauga, 14111 Claridon Troy Road in Burton. Hear the most up-to-date information about the changing tides of healthcare and the impacts on business.
Breakfast and networking begin at 7:30 a.m. followed by the presentation from 8-9 a.m. Free and open to the public. Registration is appreciated.

Farmers’ Market Farm Tour
Sept. 9
The Geauga Fresh Farmers’ Market will sponsor its final farm tour to Maplestar Farm in Auburn. Maplestar has been in the Trethewey family since 1940 and produces organically certified produce.
Free transportation is available on an air-conditioned minibus that leaves the farmers’ market parking lot in South Russell at 1 p.m. The tours are free and approximately 90 minutes plus transportation time in duration.

Munson Twp. Flea Market
Sept. 9, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Munson Township’s annual indoor/outdoor flea market will be held at the Munson Town Hall, the fire station bay and outside town hall located 12210 Auburn Road, Chardon.
Vendor spaces are $20 each and sell out quickly. Admittance fee for shoppers is $1.

St. Patrick Chinese Auction
Sept. 9, 11 a.m.
St. Patrick Church, 16550 Rock Creek Road in Thompson, will hold a Chinese auction and 50/50 raffle. Doors open at 11 a.m. for the auction. Drawing will begin at 1:30 p.m.
Light lunch available. The $2 admission includes six auction tickets. Additional tickets are three for $1. Raffle tickets are $1 each or six for $5.
Chardon Rubber Reunion Picnic
Sept. 9, 1-4 p.m.
The eighth annual Chardon Rubber Employee Reunion Picnic will be held at Walter C. Best Preserve on State Route 44 in Chardon. Bring a dish to pass and lawn chairs.
There will be a 50/50 raffle and Chinese auction. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5.
Monetary donations are needed for continuation of the yearly picnic. Donations of items for Chinese raffle appreciated.
Memorial Pasta Dinner, Fireworks
Sept. 9, 4-8 p.m.
The 10th annual Friends of Mike Fenselon Memorial Pasta Dinner will be held at Cardinal Middle School. Cost is $12 for adults and $5 for children 10 and under.
A Chinese auction will follow dinner. Winner does not need to be present.
The Fenselon family is sponsoring the annual Friends of Mike Fireworks Celebration after dinner.
Presale tickets are available at Maggie’s Donuts and Middlefield Mini Mart.
Lions Club Raffle
Sept. 9, 5 p.m. to midnight
The Chesterland Lions Club will host its annual Poor Man’s Raffle at SNPJ Hall, 10946 Heath Road, Kirtland. Join for a night of dinner, dancing and music.
Cost is $60 per couple and $40 for a single ticket. Ticket price includes drawing in the $500 prize raffle as well as roast beef and pork dinner as well as beer and wine and sideboards.

Family Pride Comedy Night

Stand Up for Family Pride Comedy Night takes place at Notre Dame Education Center, 13000 Auburn Road, Chardon.
A fundraiser for Family Pride, a local nonprofit that provides counseling and support services for children and families in Geauga, Lake and Ashtabula counties, the event features Liz Russo and a second comedian, hors d’oeuvres, cash bar, raffle and Chinese auction.

Pancake and Waffle Breakfast
Sept. 10, 9 a.m. to noon
St. Anselm Church, 12969 Chillicothe Road in Chester Township, is hosting its fifth annual pancake and waffle breakfast in Kelly Hall. Breakfast includes pancakes, waffles, hash browns and sausage.
Cost is $7 for adults, $5 for children ages 3-10 and $30 for families. All are welcome.
The church is accepting donations of hygiene items for the homeless in Geauga County during the pancake breakfast.
Woofstock 2017
Sept. 10, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Rescue Village’s annual Woofstock festival and fundraiser will be held at Cleveland Metroparks Polo Field. Event features adoptable dogs, live music, kick off parade and best look contest, Cleveland Browns watch party, senior dog Olympics, dog games and contests, blessing of the animals, vendors and food trucks.

Kiwanis Corn Roast

The Kiwanis Club of Chardon is hosting the ninth annual Corn Roast on Chardon Square. The event features entertainment, a silent auction and fresh corn from Sage’s Apples.

Town Hall Sign Dedication

Advanced Directives Workshops

The Geauga County Bar Association is hosting a free two part informational workshop on health care powers of attorney and living will declarations the Chardon Senior Center, 12555 Ravenwood Drive in Chardon.
The Sept. 12 workshop will include a presentation by Geauga County Bar Association attorneys explaining the uses and law behind health care powers of attorney and living will declarations. A special guest from Hospice of the Western Reserve will discuss understanding hospice, palliative care and end of life issues. In addition, guest speaker Margie Wenz, a clinical ethicist at UH Regional, will discuss the ethical issues.
At the second part of the workshop on Sept. 19, Geauga County Bar Association attorneys will provide complimentary health care powers of attorney and living will declarations.

Candidates Night

The Geauga County Tea Party will hold a candidates night at the West Woods Nature Center, 9465 Kinsman Road, Russell Township.
The next election is Nov. 7. Learn who the candidates are for villages, townships and school boards, what the state issues are and which townships and school systems have tax increases on the ballot.
Genealogical Society Meets

Wind, Strings & Ivory will present “Civil War in Song and Narrative” at the next meeting of the Geauga County Genealogical Society at Chardon Library, 110 E. Park St., Chardon.

Historical Society Meets
Sept. 13, 7:30 p.m.
The Bainbridge Historical Society begins its fall program series at the Burns-Lindow Building with a review of its bicentennial time capsule project, sale and drawing of raffle tickets for two antique quilts and a showing of its April 23 twelve-minute skit depicting the creation of Bainbridge as a township. Attendees are encouraged to bring items that they would like placed in the capsule.
Geauga Co. Airport Day
Sept. 16, 7-11 a.m.
The Experimental Aircraft Association, Chapter 5 will host its last fly-in of the summer at the Geauga County Airport, 15421 Old State Road in Middlefield.
An all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast will be served from 7-11 a.m. Donation is $8 for adults and $4 for youth 2-11.
Free Young Eagle airplane rides will be offered to first time flyers ages 8-17 from 8-11 a.m. Parental permission is required.
The event features aircraft displays and demonstrations.
Admission and parking are free. Bring lawn chairs. Fly-in or drive in.

Village Peddler Festival
Sept. 16-17
The 36th annual Village Peddler Festival will be held on Sept. 16 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sept. 17 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Lake Metroparks Farmpark, 8800 Euclid Chardon Road in Kirtland.
Featuring more than 175 juried craftsmen and artisans, all items are crafted and made in the styles of Americana, traditional, country, contemporary and fine art.
Event includes food vendors, live folk music, gourmet market and free wagon rides, corn maze and children’s playground.
Admission is $9 for adults, $7 for seniors over 60 and $5 for children ages 2-11. Children under 2 are free. Parking is free.

Bingo For Scholarships

The American Legion Auxiliary of Post 459 in Burton will be holding a Bingo fundraiser at its hall located at 14052 Goodwin St Burton. There will be food available as well as a raffle with cash prizes.

DTJ Clambake
Sept. 17, 1-3 p.m.
DTJ Taborville is holding a clambake at its location in Auburn Township at the intersection of Bartholemew and Quinn roads. By reservation only, cost is $25.50 per bake. Extra clams are $8.50 per dozen. Hot dog, chips and pop for children will be available at $4.
Czech beer is available at the bar. John Pastirik will provide music.

Audubon Highlights Wildlife Sanctuary
Sept. 19, 7 p.m.
Blackbrook Audubon will offer a free program at Penitentiary Glen in Kirtland. John Lillich will present “Hach-Otis and Pleasant Valley: a History.”
Located in Willoughby Hills, Hach-Otis Sanctuary is owned and managed by Audubon Society of Greater Cleveland (ASGC). Lillich will describe the original donation of the property in the 1940s to the Cleveland Bird Club.

The Geauga Soil and Water Conservation District and Geauga Public Health will host a free SepticSmart program at the Geauga West Library, 13455 Chillicothe Road in Chester Township. Join for an informative presentation with Dave Sage, registered sanitarian with Geauga Public Health, to discuss how a home septic system works, how to maintain a home sewage treatment system and what to do when it appears to not be working properly.

Friends Of Red Tulip Fundraiser

The Friends of the Red Tulip Project of Geauga is holding a benefit “Pas- ta with a Purpose” dinner, silent auction and Chinese auction at St. Mary’s Church Banquet Room to benefit the Red Tulip Project.
The mission of the Red Tulip Project (RTP) is to provide a sober, safe and smart environment for women on a path to independent living in Geauga County.
The Friends are seeking sponsors and donations for the auction. Sponsor names will be in the program and announced at the event.
Dinner tickets are $10 for adults 12 and older, $5 for children 4-11 and free for children 3 and under. Take out is available.
