Welcome Back, Students

St. Mary School kicked off its school year officially on Aug. 28, but festivities and preparations started long before the bus arrived on the first day. New families and students were welcomed by staff and the PTU for a night of fun on Aug. 24, including a visit from the King Kone ice cream truck, bus riding practice with Chardon Transportation officials and a balloon release to send our best wishes out for a great year.

The year’s start has special meaning because St. Mary was named an Ohio Department of Education STEM Designated school this summer and staff, students and families are now back together to celebrate and kick off a new year of exploration together. The school will be presented with the STEM banner on Sept. 9 at the opening Mass and will host its community partners in a reception following.

On Aug. 28, the first day included the ceremonial pictures in front of the school in newly pressed school uniforms. Some parents were sad to see their little ones go while others were ready for the challenge of the new year. The school hosted a “Boohoo/Yahoo” coffee gathering where some parents were consoled and others celebrated. Here’s to a great 2017-18 School year!
