Chardon VFW Post 6519 will serve spaghetti and meatballs for dinner every Wednesday in September to complement its weekly Queen of Hearts drawing.

Chardon VFW Post 6519 will serve spaghetti and meatballs for dinner every Wednesday in September to complement its weekly Queen of Hearts drawing. Cost is $6 per serving. Extra meatballs are 50 cents each.

Fall Yoga

Wednesdays, 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Join for a gentle, progressive style of yoga suitable for all ages and body types at the Chardon United Methodist Church, 515 North St. No experience is needed.

Conducted by master teacher and instructor Susan Gundersen, a suggested donation of $10 is requested, with proceeds going towards the church’s Guatemala mission. Bring a yoga mat, light blanket and wear comfortable clothing.

Geauga Co. Airport Day

Sept. 16, 7-11 a.m.

The Experimental Aircraft Association, Chapter 5 will host its last fly-in of the summer at the Geauga County Airport, 15421 Old State Road in Middlefield.

An all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast will be served from 7-11 a.m. Donation is $8 for adults and $4 for youth 2-11.

Free Young Eagle airplane rides will be offered to first time flyers ages 8-17 from 8-11 a.m. Parental permission is required.

The event features aircraft displays and demonstrations.

Admission and parking are free. Bring lawn chairs. Fly-in or drive in.

Food Distribution

Sept. 16, 9-11 a.m.

The Cleveland Food Bank will be distributing food to families in need at Celebration Lutheran Church, 10621 Auburn Road in Chardon.

Village Peddler Festival

Sept. 16-17

The 36th annual Village Peddler Festival will be held on Sept. 16 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sept. 17 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Lake Metroparks Farmpark, 8800 Euclid Chardon Road in Kirtland.

Featuring more than 175 juried craftsmen and artisans, all items are crafted and made in the styles of Americana, traditional, country, contemporary and fine art.

Event includes food vendors, live folk music, gourmet market and free wagon rides, corn maze and children’s playground.

Admission is $9 for adults, $7 for seniors over 60 and $5 for children ages 2-11. Children under 2 are free. Parking is free.

Bingo For Scholarships

Sept. 16, 5 p.m.

The American Legion Auxiliary of Post 459 in Burton will be holding a Bingo fundraiser at its hall located at 14052 Goodwin St Burton. There will be food available as well as a raffle with cash prizes.

Volunteer Open House

LGRC Pancake Breakfast

Sept. 23, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Celebrate National Recovery Month with Lake-Geauga Recovery Centers and the Lake County ADAMHS at the First Church Congregational UCC located at 22 Liberty St. in Painesville.

The all-you-can-eat breakfast is $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 10 and under. No reservations are necessary. Everyone is welcome.

Giant Garage Sale

Sept. 23 and 24, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Shop the Geauga County Dog Shelter’s third annual Giant Garage Sale taking place at 12513 Merritt Road in Chardon. There are thousands of items for sale, raffles, refreshments and adoptable dogs to meet.

All money raised will be used for the care of Geauga County’s homeless dogs.

The shelter is always in need of monetary donations, bleach, paper towels, soft treats, collars and leashes.

5K Zombie Run and Family Fun Walk

Sept. 24, 11 a.m.

Join the 5K Zombie Run and Family Fun Walk for the grand re-opening of Perfect Occasion Costumes and Magic, 14908 N. State St. in Middlefield. The 5K starts at 11 a.m. with a family fun walk to follow.

Event includes vendors, food trucks, costumed characters, magicians, music, karaoke, face and body painting, balloon twisters. There will also be a Zombie make up contest, and costume contest, basket raffle and 50/50 raffle.

All proceeds will be donated to Shop with a Cop.

Get SepticSmart

Sept. 28, 6-7:30 p.m.

The Geauga Soil and Water Conservation District and Geauga Public Health will host a free SepticSmart program at the Geauga West Library, 13455 Chillicothe Road in Chester Township. Join for an informative presentation with Dave Sage, registered sanitarian with Geauga Public Health, to discuss how a home septic system works, how to maintain a home sewage treatment system and what to do when it appears to not be working properly.

Friends Of Red Tulip Fundraiser

Sept. 29, 5-10 p.m.

The Friends of the Red Tulip Project of Geauga is holding a benefit “Pas- ta with a Purpose” dinner, silent auction and Chinese auction at St. Mary’s Church Banquet Room to benefit the Red Tulip Project.

The mission of the Red Tulip Project (RTP) is to provide a sober, safe and smart environment for women on a path to independent living in Geauga County.

The Friends are seeking sponsors and donations for the auction. Sponsor names will be in the program and announced at the event.

Dinner tickets are $10 for adults 12 and older, $5 for children 4-11 and free for children 3 and under. Take out is available.

Audubon Visits Mentor Birding Hot Spots

Sept. 30, 8 a.m.

Blackbrook Audubon will meet at the farthest eastern parking lot of Headlands Beach State Park, closest to the Headlands Dunes State Nature Preserve, to search for birds as they start their fall migration. If the main drive at Headlands Beach is closed, use the fishing access. Other stops will include Lake Metroparks Veterans Park and Wake Robin Trail at Mentor Marsh.

GCRTA Luncheon Meeting

Oct. 3, 11:15 a.m.

The Geauga County Retired Teachers Association will meet at Grand River Cellars, 5750 Madison Road, Madison. Gathering time will be followed by a business meeting at 11:30 a.m. and a marinated half chicken luncheon at noon.

The program is ‘Is Abe Lincoln Smart Enough for Mary Todd,” a theatrical presentation of a re-enactment conversation between Abe Lincoln and Mary Todd.

Annual Turkey Dinner

Oct. 7, 4-6:30 p.m.

Huntsburg Congregational Church will hold its annual turkey dinner with all the fixings at the church located at 12435 Madison Road.

Cost is $11 for adults, $9 for seniors, and $6 for children ages 5-10. Children under 5 are free. Carry out is available. Chinese auction tickets are $1 each or six for $5.

Help for the Homeless

Oct. 7, 6-9 p.m.

The annual fundraiser dinner and program for Geauga Faith Rescue Mission (GFRM), a homeless shelter project in Geauga County, will be held at the Notre Dame Education Center Auditorium, 13000 Auburn Road in Chardon. Tickets can be purchased by mailing $75 per person to GFRM, P.O. Box 823, Chardon or online at www.gfrmission.org by clicking on the Events link.

The evening includes live music with dinner, a video presentation, informational speakers and silent and live auctions. Guest speaker is Gerry Grim, chief operating officer at Edwins Leadership & Restaurant Institute.

Flying Club Hosts Swap Meet

Oct. 14, 9 a.m. to noon

Geauga Radio Controlaires is hosting the sixth annual Jim Gardner Memorial RC Model Swap Meet at the Mentor Beach Park Pavilion, 7779 Lakeshore Blvd. in Mentor-on-the-Lake.

Eighty exhibitor tables of radio controlled planes, helicopters, quadcopters, cars, boats, radios, tools and accessories will be displayed for sale, barter and trade by regional modelers.

Admission is $5. Youth 11 and under are free. Hot food will be available. Parking is free.
