All-Ohio Football Players Honored

Newbury High School and the Newbury Athletic Department recognized senior football players John Chambers III and Alex Lampert on Sept. 1 before the Ashtabula St. John at Newbury football game for their 2016 All-Ohio Division 7 AP Honor.

Each student athlete was presented with a framed portrait by Principal Michael Chaffee and head coach Ryan Williams. The framed portraits will be displayed in the Newbury Hall of Pride on the Wall of Fame along with only 16 other Newbury athletes. The two All-Ohio awards are the first for Newbury since 2008 and the first football All-Ohio Award since 2007.

John Chambers III was one of four quarterbacks recognized with this Division 7 All-Ohio designation and he was the only junior quarterback recognized. He led the Newbury Black Knight offensive attack with 2,290 total yards of offense. Of that amount, Chambers rushed for 1,902 yards and passed for 388 yards. Chambers was a big reason why the Newbury Black Knights went from 0-7 in 2015 to 6-4 in 2016.

Alex Lampert was the only junior class representative of the eight linebackers recognized with Division 7 All-Ohio honors. Lampert’s first year playing with the Black Knights was in 2016. He was Newbury’s second leading tackler and he led the Black Knights in sacks, tackles for a loss, fumble recoveries and quarterback hurries.
