CV Herb Society Meets

Oct. 13, 12:30 p.m.

The Chagrin Valley Herb Society will meet at the Bainbridge Library. After refreshments and a business meeting at 1 p.m., there will be a demonstration and workshop on making potpourri presented by the potpourri garden committee headed by Ann Sekerak.

F.O.E. Ladies Auxiliary Dinners

Fridays, 5:30-7:30 p.m.

The Chardon Eagles Ladies Auxiliary, 317 Water St. in Chardon, hosts Friday Fish Fry dinners every Friday, Oct. 13 through March 30, except during holiday weeks, Nov. 24, Dec. 22 and Dec. 29.

The public is welcome. Proceeds benefit the ladies auxiliary charities.

VFW Spaghetti Dinner

Oct. 14, 4-7 p.m.

Middlefield VFW Post 9678 is hosting a spaghetti dinner at the post located at 16103 E. High St. Event includes a 50/50 and basket raffle.

Cost is $7 presale or $8 at the door. Veterans eat for free.

The post is also holding a food drive collection through Oct. 20 for the Geauga Veteran Food Pantry. Items needed include shelf staples, personal hygiene products and gift cards.

WG Plaza Trick or Treat

Oct. 19, 4-6 p.m.

The merchants at West Geauga Plaza in Chester Township are hosting a Halloween Trick or Treat for children ages 2-12 accompanied by an adult. Dress in costume, bring a treat bag and stop by the plaza stores for treats.

GOP Coffee Conversations

Oct. 14, 9 a.m.

The Geauga County Republican Party will hold its quarterly Coffee Conversations at its headquarters at 100 Center St., Suite 250 in the Chase Bank Building in Chardon. Use parking spaces in the back lot.

Doors will open at 9:00 a.m.

Sheriff Scott Hildenbrand and Prosecutor Jim Flaiz will begin speaking at 9:30 a.m. and will then take questions from the audience.

Flying Club Hosts Swap Meet

Oct. 14, 9 a.m. to noon

Geauga Radio Controlaires is hosting the sixth annual Jim Gardner Memorial RC Model Swap Meet at the Mentor Beach Park Pavilion, 7779 Lakeshore Blvd. in Mentor-on-the-Lake.

Admission is $5. Youth 11 and under are free. Hot food will be available. Parking is free.

Fall Bazaar

Burton Congregational Church will hold its Fall Bazaar of craft, items, baked goods, candy and rummage sale items. Lunch will be served all day.

Apple Butter Festival

Oct. 14-15, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The annual Apple Butter Festival returns to the grounds of Century Village Museum in Burton. In addition to the making of the Society’s own apple butter products, there will be a wide variety of activities and demonstrations.

Cost is $8 for adults, $5 for children ages 6–12 and free for children 5 and under. Admission is free with membership.

Pig Roast

Oct. 14, 4:30-7 p.m.

Newbury American Legion Post 663 is hosting its seventh annual pie auction and pig roast in the Hunter Pavilion behind the Post located at 11008 Kinsman Road, Newbury.

Pie auction tickets are $1 each or six for $5. Dinner tickets are $15 and include pork, sides and dessert.

Proceeds benefit the American Legion and auxiliary.

Community Pasta Dinner

Pilgrim Christian Church, 202 S. Hambden St., Chardon, is hosting a community pasta dinner. Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children. Proceeds benefit the steeple and general fund.

DTJ Night at the Races

DTJ Taborville is having its sixth annual Night at The Races at 9850 North Blvd., Auburn Township. Doors open at 6 p.m. followed by a spaghetti and meatballs dinner at 6:30 p.m. and post time at 7:30 p.m. Event includes a Bohemian raffle.

Free Clay Class

Oct. 16, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Auburn Community Church, 11076 E. Washington St., will host Come and Play with Clay, a one-time complimentary class for beginner adults to introduce pop-up craft activities being planned for the winter. The group will be sculpting a 14-18-inch doll head, with the doll to be completed at a later event.

Threats to Forest Health

Blackbrook Audubon Society will host a free program at Big Creek Park, 9160 Robinson Road in Chardon Township. Guest speaker Ryan Trimbath will share results from his three-year study on how forest plant communities have been impacted by white-tailed deer and invasive earthworms and how these changes affect hooded warblers in the Cuyahoga Valley.

VFW Philly Cheesesteaks

Chardon VFW Post 6519 will serve Philly cheesesteak sandwiches for dinner every Wednesday in October to complement its weekly Queen of Hearts drawing. Cost is $6 per serving. Fresh-cut Idaho potato fries are $2. Hamm’s Beer is $1 each.

Creations Boutique Sale

The Children’s Guild of Cleveland is hosting its annual CREATIONS boutique featuring holiday decor, jewelry, women’s accessories, children’s items, fiber arts, gourmet, gift ideas and more at Acacia Reservation Clubhouse, 26899 Cedar Road, Lyndhurst.

Good Samaritan Dinner

Oct. 18, 5-6:30 p.m.

The Burton Congregational Church, UCC, Good Samaritan Dinner will be at the church in Burton. The cost is $8 for adults, $3 for children ages 4-11 and free for children 3 and under.

Homemade meal consists of chicken, spaghetti, salad, bread, dessert and beverage. Takeout is available by calling 440-834-4495 the day of the dinner from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Proceeds go to meet emergency needs of local families.

Family Movie Night

Oct. 20, 6:30 p.m.

Join First United Methodist Church for family movie night in the social hall of the church located at 14999 South State Ave. in Middlefield.

There is no charge for the movie, popcorn or beverages. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Master Gardeners Offer Free Class

Geauga Master Gardener volunteers are offering “Gardening for Free/On a Budget: Gardening RRR (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” at the OSU Extension Office, Patterson Center, 14269 Claridon-Troy Road, Burton.

American Legion Pancake Breakfast

The Geauga County Tea Party will presents a Candidates Night at the West Woods Nature Center, 9465 Kinsman Road, Russell Township. Election is Nov. 7.

Learn who the candidates are for villages, townships and school boards and what Ohio issues 1 and 2 are all about. Become an informed voter.

GSWCD Vermicomposting Workshop

Oct. 26, 6-8:30 p.m.

Geauga Soil and Water Conservation District will host a free vermicomposting workshop at the West Woods Nature Center, 9465 Kinsman Road, Russell Township.

Compost expert Diana Sette will demonstrate the essential steps of creating and maintaining a vermicomposting system. Supplies included for the first 30 Geauga County residents who register.

Registration is required by Oct. 17.

Chardon Veterans of Foreign Wars are holding their annual clambake at Post 6519, 752 Water St. Cost is $25 per person for one dozen clams and half a chicken dinner, and $10 for extra clams.

Veterans Recognition Lunch

Nov. 8, 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

A veterans recognition lunch and pinning ceremony by the Burton American Legion Color Guard will be held in the banquet room of Sisters of Notre Dame, 13000 Auburn Road in Chardon.

All veterans eat free, however, must register. Cost is $15 for non-veterans.

Housing Coalition Chili Cook-Off

Nov. 10, 6:30-8:30 p.m.

The Geauga County Housing Coalition is holding its fifth annual fundraiser at Metzenbaum Center, 8200 Cedar Road in Chester Township. Proceeds will be distributed to local agencies to help homeless and at-risk individuals and families in Geauga County.

Numerous Geauga County agencies will have their special chili recipes for attendees to taste and judge. The event also includes a silent auction, a Chinese auction, a 50/50 raffle and many door prizes, along with information about local agencies and services.

Tickets are $10, which includes appetizers, chili tasting, corn bread and homemade desserts.

Gift Of Magi Boutique

Nov. 10-11

A preview party for the annual Gift for the Magi holiday boutique will be held Nov. 10 from 7-9 p.m. at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 11900 Chillicothe Road in Chester Township. For adults only, the $5 admission includes preview of the boutique, music, hors d’oeuvres and wine.

The boutique runs Nov. 11 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and features handcrafted items by more than 35 juried crafters. Admission is free. Featured this year is a quilt raffle; tickets are $2 each or three for $5.

Join the Boutique Bounce on Nov. 10 and 11 by also shopping the boutiques at St. Anselm Church, 13013 Chillicothe Road in Chester, and Old South Church, 9802 Chillicothe Road in Kirtland. Shoppers who visit the three boutiques will be eligible for one of three grand prizes. Begin the bounce at any of the churches and get the card stamped at each location.

Vendors Sought for Shopping Fair

Auburn Firedevils, auxiliary to the Auburn Volunteer Fire Department, is hosting its sixth annual arts, crafts and consultants fair at Adams Halls, 11455 Washington St., Auburn Township.

The group is seeking vendors for the event. Tables are $25 each. Tables and chairs are provided. There is ample parking.
