Sheriff’s Report
The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office Oct. 6-12. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 388 calls during this seven-day period.
ANIMAL PROBLEM
Oct. 6
12:04 p.m., Doty Road, Parkman. Complainant advised there is sound like an animal in distress behind his house. Would like it checked. Located the source of the noise, which was a calf yelling for its mother. Calf is being weaned.
ASSAULT
Oct. 7
2:18 p.m., Paradise Drive, Middlefield. Child was assaulted about 15 minutes ago. Caller would like to file a report. Deputy advised. A juvenile was assaulted by two other juveniles. Juvenile victim was transported to the hospital.
CITIZEN DISPUTE
Oct. 8
4:44 p.m., Crestridge Drive, Chardon Township. Neighbor dispute over small children going over the property line. The aggressive neighbor has left the area for the time being, but his wife is still at the home. Ongoing issue with family being harassed. All parties are separate. Verbal only over a basketball bouncing into yard. Advice given.
9:39 p.m., Madison Road, Thompson. 1997 Cutlass was stolen from the property around Tuesday. Unknown who may have taken it. Complainant and the resident at Madison Road address divorced in June 2017. Male agreed to have all his belongings removed 30 days after the divorce was finalized. This allegedly was signed by all the parties involved with their respective attorneys. Caller did not remove the car he left on the property. Responding deputy spoke with the ex-wife who advised she contacted a private tow and had the vehicle removed from the property pursuant to their divorce decree. Ex-wife would not disclose who towed the car and asked deputy to have the male call the ex-wife’s attorney for further information.
Oct. 9
6:36 p.m., Hotchkiss Road, Burton Township. Ongoing neighbor dispute. Caller has just arrived home and found swastikas painted on the trees facing his home. Spoke with the neighbor. Stated he believed man was attempting to put swastikas with white spray paint on all the trees on the property line. Deputy observed the markings and spoke with the neighbor. Male stated someone has been tampering with one of his tree stands in the woods so told her he was going to put an “X” on the trees of the entire property line. Stated she will speak with neighbor; she does not want problems and she will resolve issue.
JUVENILE PROBLEM
Oct. 6
11:57 a.m., Auburn Road, Newbury. Meet in the office. A student has a lockbox in his locker. They believe there is some contraband in the lockbox and the student claims he does not have the key. Caller would like a deputy present while they open the box.
Oct. 9
7:03 a.m., Leader Road, Hambden. Having trouble with her son. Won’t go to school. No weapons. Mom did smack him and he pushed her face out of the way. Deputy advised. Mom called back and said her son is willing to go now. Still sending an officer. No further check ups.
INTOXICATED PERSON
Oct. 6
9:55 p.m., Kinsman Road, Newbury. Gray van with ladders on top pulled into the parking lot about three hours. Male driver is in Zeppe’s now and is highly intoxicated. Caller is concerned this male is going to drive away intoxicated. Male is currently watching the game. Caller wishes to remain anonymous. Finally located driver of van. He was advised of the complaint and it was suggested to him if he is intoxicated to have someone pick him up or someone else drive him home. Male advising this is the fourth time someone called the police “anonymous” and reported him.
PROPERTY DAMAGE
Oct. 6
6:58 a.m., Route 608, Claridon. There is a blue pickup with a flatbed at the intersection of U.S. 322 missing a tire. The tire fell off the truck and rolled into caller’s vehicle. Caller left for work but needs a report for damage. Vehicle missing the tire is still there. Report taken.
SUSPICIOUS
Oct. 6
3:01 a.m., Woodin Road, Chardon Township. I was following a vehicle westbound Hosford then southbound Ravenna that was traveling at a much greater speed than the posted speed limit. By the time deputy was able to catch up to the car, it pulled into this address and suspected male driver was just hanging around the yard and sat on a rock, and did not go in the house. It was confirmed the male lived there and he did admit to probably going fast, because he had to use the restroom. Checks OK.
Oct. 7
1:28 p.m., Main Market Road, Troy. Maroon or purple car with Texas plate eastbound on 422 with marijuana plants in it. Deputy checked and found vehicles matching the description.
Oct. 10
5:25 a.m., GAR Highway, Hambden. Caller states he has been harassed all night by physical stimuli by the neighbors behind him. He believes it’s related to the local supporters around the corner. Caller states he is unwilling to commit and felonies or hurting anyone over people who are abusing power and doing dirty things that are unethical. Caller states he is going to bed and doesn’t want a report or to see a deputy, only because he “knows it’s a recorded line and later he’s sure this call will be subpoenaed.” Deputy advised. Male not at home. Spoke with his mother who hasn’t noticed any change in his behavior.
THEFT
Oct. 7
11:54 p.m., Ledge Road, Thompson. Caller states 50 pills of Oxycodone were stolen from her by her daughter-in-law who resides in same campground. Deputy advised. Due to the time, the female does not want deputies to respond. Female will call in the morning to report the theft.
Oct. 9
8:43 a.m., Messenger Road, Auburn. Theft of purse from car last night. She already is receiving credit card fraud alerts on her phone. Deputy advised. Report taken.
8:59 a.m., Messenger Road, Auburn. Caller advised his vehicle was broken into. Complainant not at home. He would just like a deputy to call him. Deputy advised. Report taken.
11:04 a.m., Robin Wood Lane, Auburn. Caller advised her purse was stolen from her vehicle. Report taken.
12:20 p.m., Washington Street, Auburn. Theft from truck overnight, unlocked. 12-guage shotgun, cross bow, tablet. Report taken.
VANDALISM

9:35 a.m., Merritt Road, Claridon. Five road signs “graffitied” with genitals. Need a report.
