Sheriff’s Report
November 2, 2017

The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office Oct. 20-26, 2017. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 418 calls during this seven-day period.

CITIZEN DISPUTE

Oct. 24

12:32 p.m., Treadway Drive, Munson. Neighbor is harassing caller with a high-pitched leaf blower. Deputy advised. Advice given.

DOMESTIC DISPUTE

Oct. 24

4:44 p.m., Mayfield Road, Claridon. Male called 9-1-1 to advise he’s angry and is in an argument with his mother. His mother took the phone and stated there are no problems and disconnected.

ELDER ABUSE

Oct. 22

6:14 p.m., Vernon Drive, Parkman. Caller is the house manager at the home for developmental disabilities. Caller observed a staff member abusing one of the clients. Staff grabbed the client and shoved her into the bed railing. Staff member was removed from the facility. They need to make a report.

HARASSMENT

Oct. 25

4:29 p.m., Burlington Ridge Drive, Munson. Caller had his son leaf blowing and as he was going along the property line he was blowing the leaves in the back by the fence and the neighbor comes running around the fence wanting to “swing” at the caller and continued to verbally harass him. Both parties separated. Caller wishes to make a report. Deputies went to the neighbor’s house but he was not home. Deputies will try again to make contact. Advice given.

ILLEGAL BURNING

Oct. 20

6:31 a.m., Nash Road, Parkman. The homeowner on the southwest corner is burning garbage. Smoke and odor is in the caller’s house. Extinguished unattended construction debris fire.

INJURED PERSON

Oct. 23

2:07 p.m., Kinsman Road, Middlefield Township. Fell 10 feet through the roof of the barn. He landed on concrete. Possible broken ankle. He is alert and talking. Squad was clearing as deputy arrived.

JUVENILE PROBLEM

Oct. 24

6:48 p.m., Auburn Road, Newbury. Caller states two classmates stole his basketball shoes and threw them in a toilet, and then took the shoes and threw them at him. Caller is walking in the parking lot toward the gym. Classmates are in eighth grade and caller is in ninth grade. Caller thinks these girls are picking on him because he has autism. He is waiting for an officer in the hallway. Complainant did not know the names of the two girls that took his shoes. Checked with school staff and they did not witness anyone take complainant’s shoes. Checked the high school and middle school for complainant’s shoes. UTL shoes and the two females.

Oct. 26

12:01 p.m., Claridon Troy Road, Troy. Her 12-year-old son is destroying the house. He broke the front window. He was hitting his mother and threw a chair at her. Son became upset when his computer froze. Complainant called the sheriff’s office because she wanted deputies to respond. Son currently is in counseling and complainant will tell counselor about problems. Deputies explained consequences to this actions and son stated he would listen to the rules of the house.

LITTERING

Oct. 26

11:04 a.m., Auburn Road, Munson. Someone dumped two loads of plastic pipe. They were caught and made to remove it. This is not the first time and they won’t listen to us. Request to have a deputy call them. Spoke with owner of Lightspeed Directional Drilling. Advised him of complaint and asked on behalf of Munson Township to stop discarding work material in bins. Owner understood and will advise his crews.

SUSPICIOUS

Oct. 23

5:25 a.m., Sunset Drive, Auburn. Caller states there was a low-flying helicopter that went over his house four to five times about 30 minutes ago. Checked area. UTL on any aircraft.
Oct. 24

10:56 a.m., Merritt Road, Munson. Suspicious things found written in a magazine at doctor’s office at Hillcrest Hospital. Suspicious note in magazine. Complainant was advised to contact Mayfield Heights PD.

Oct. 25

1:10 a.m., Kinsman Road, Burton Township. Out with a female stumbling down the road. Requesting squad for the female having a panic attack. Female issued summons and father took female home.

Oct. 26

11:28 p.m., GAR Highway. Hambden. States a drone is flying in his yard. He has spoken to FAA, sheriff’s office lieutenant and attorney general. “This is illegal.” Complainant states it is an ongoing issue. Believes they are flying drones onto his property intentionally. Nothing seen while on scene. Complainant states this is a daily occurrence.

THEFT

Oct. 20

8:56 a.m., Cumberland Trail, Auburn. Two 200-pound pumpkins were taken last night. Report taken.

Oct. 21

11:30 a.m., Reynolds Road, Parkman. Theft of a company backpack with a work iPad in it, two packs of cigarettes and $60 in cash taken. Report taken.

Oct. 23

8:30 a.m., Munn Road, Auburn. Someone stole his Oxycodone yesterday. Report taken.

Oct. 24

6:57 p.m., Taylor Wells Road, Claridon. Caller believes someone stole his dog, a Siberian Husky, black and white with skulls collar. He was put out on a lead and 15 minutes later was gone. Lead is not broke and caller states he didn’t slip his collar. A tag that was attached to the collar was found on the ground; appears the clasp of the lead may have opened. Caller has no problems with anyone. Dog is micro-chipped. Caller advised to call dog warden in morning.

THREATENING

Oct. 23

5:41 p.m., Dora Drive, Newbury. Caller reports her teenage son is receiving threatening texts after he reported criminal activity. Complainant provided text messages. In the texts there were comments made to the complainant that made the complainant worried. Contacted the three involved and advice was given.

Oct. 24

12:30 p.m., Ledge Road, Thompson. Was involved in a road rage incident about a month ago. The other male involved called me making threats about the incident and wanting to cause harm to me. I have the number the male called on. Deputy spoke with complainant, who stated highway patrol handled a road-rage crash he was involved in on Oct. 12. Driver of the other car contacted complainant via telephone twice today stating, “You better have good insurance.” Complainant would like extra patrol. Deputy gave advice on obtaining a no-contact order and protection order.

WELFARE CHECK

Oct. 22

8:50 p.m., Captains Walk, Munson. Welfare check on teenage male. Posted a video on Friday that is quite graphic. He lives with his grandmother. He made threats to harm her as well. He also states he wanted to harm boys at school. He is autistic. Deputies spoke with the boy. He explained he was very frustrated that day due to bullying in school and other things at home. He was very relaxed when deputies spoke to him and said he would take the video down. Deputies also told him if he does get upset or angry to talk to a counselor at school. Deputy called the reporting person back but did not receive an answer.
