GLTG REP Launches Gathering Blue
Nov. 10-11, 7:30 p.m.
Geauga Lyric Theater has a new group – The GLTG Repertory Company (REP), which is composed of 16 teens who auditioned for a chance to be part of the unique team that will be putting on six productions in nine months, each with about three weeks to rehearse. A challenging project directed by Angela Miloro-Hansen, each will have different roles, sometimes as actors, sometimes as backstage crew, sometimes running lights or sound. Once a month they take part in a master class.
“Gathering Blue” is a companion story to the book “The Giver,” and while not a sequel, tells of other communities in the same world.
The story centers on Kira, played by Julia Reid. Lame from birth and orphaned as a young teenager, she lives in a cruel society, where there is no room for the weak or sick. Her skill at embroidery saves her, and she is assigned to work on a robe used in an important ceremony. All the colors are vibrant, except for the blue threads, as the group has forgotten how to make blue. As she searches for the missing color, she finds truth and friends and tries to use both to change her world for the better.
Tickets for all GLTG REP shows are $5, general admission, with sales at the door.
For information on future shows, scheduling for school groups, or other questions, contact Miloro-Hansen at educationoutreach@geaugatheater.org.
