St. Anselm Church is holding its annual free buffet style Thanksgiving dinner in Kelly Hall located on the church grounds, 13013 Chillicothe Road, Chester Township. All are welcome.

Any donations or free will offerings will go to the Geauga Hunger Task Force. For more information or to make a donation, call the parish office at 440-729-9575.

Food Pantry Open

Nov. 24, 10 a.m. to noon

The Food Pantry at Chester Christian Center A/G Church will be open to the community. The pantry is open to anyone in need of food; one does not need to be a member of the church to attend.

The church is located at 11815 Chillicothe Road in Chester Township.

Winterfest Lights Up Parkside

Nov. 25, 5:30 p.m.

The Chesterland Rotary Club and the Chester Township Trustees will host the eighth annual Winterfest at the Chester Township gazebo in the park at the corner of Mayfield and Chillicothe roads.

Join community members for the annual lighting of the tree and the park. Also included will be a bonfire, free popcorn, hot cider and hot chocolate, live music, sing-alongs, plus a guest appearance by Santa.

The event is free and open to the public. In the event of snow, there will be a snowman-making contest. The event will be canceled in the event of rain.

Veterans Perspective Panel

Nov. 29, 12:30-1:30 p.m.

Join a panel discussion with Lakeland student veterans at Lakeland Community College, Building A, room A-2101.

Veterans face unique challenges as they transition from
the service back into the civilian world, particularly in pursuing higher education. Lakeland student veterans will be sharing their stories and answering questions from the audience.The event is free and open to the public.

Dorothy’s Porch Giveaway

A free giveaway of clothing for the family, household items, bedding and linens, Christmas items, toys and books will take place Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturday from 9-10 a.m. at Celebration Lutheran Church, 10621 Auburn Road in Chardon. The event is free to all.

GEL Breakfast

Dec. 1, 7:30-9:30 a.m.

Education leader panelists will share how their classrooms are changing how students learn today at the next Geauga Economic Leadership (G.E.L.) breakfast at KSU Geauga, 14111 Claridon Troy Road in Burton.

Panelists include school superintendents: Tamee Tucker, iSTEM Early College High School; Michael Hanlon, Chardon Schools; Nancy Santilli, Kenston Schools; Richard Markwardt, West Geauga Schools; Robert W. Hunt, Chagrin Schools; and moderator Jennifer Felker, Geauga County Educational Service Center.

Hear how their schools are changing the way students learn; the 21st century classroom is not your parents classroom. A question and answer session will follow.

Breakfast and networking begin at 7:30 a.m. followed by the presentation at 8 a.m. Free and open to the public. Registration is appreciated.

Breakfast With Santa

Parkman Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring Breakfast with Santa at the Parkman Community House, 16295 State Route 422. Bring a camera and take one’s child’s picture with Santa and enjoy a breakfast a scrambled eggs, sausage and pancake breakfast. Executive Caterers’ annual fundraising luncheon at Landerhaven will benefit Lake-Geauga Recovery Centers. Enjoy lunch and a performance by the Singing Angels.

GCRTA Holiday Brunch

Dec. 5, 9:30 a.m.

The Geauga County Retired Teachers Association will hold its holiday brunch meeting at The Tanglewood Club, 8745 Tanglewood Trail, Chagrin Falls. Gathering time will be followed by a business meeting at 10 a.m. and a traditional breakfast buffet at 10:30 a.m. There will be a 50/50 raffle and free lunch raffle.

Guest speaker will be Dr. Randy Overbeck, ORTA president. He will present an overview of current issues and lobbying efforts and provide information on STRS, COLA and healthcare.

Tom Stalzer will be collecting canned goods and paper products for the Geauga Hunger Task Force.

The Geauga County Job and Family Services is seeking holiday season volunteers to “Sponsor a Family” and provide food and gifts to some low income families in the county. Delivery date is Dec. 19. Contact Sara Shininger, program director, for information or to volunteer at 440-285-9141, ext. 1263.

Army-Navy Game

Dec. 9, 2 p.m.

Tickets are available to watch the Army versus Navy game at Chardon VFW Post 6519, The game starts at 3 p.m.

Italian sausage sandwiches and rigatoni will be served during the second quarter. There will be a $300 reverse drawing held at halftime along with football boards, side boards and 50/50.

Donation is $15.
