Sheriff’s Report
The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office Dec. 22-28, 2017. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 274 calls during this seven-day period.
ALARM – BUSINESS
Dec. 24
1:51 a.m., Music Street, Newbury. Interior garage door. Came in at 1:48 a.m. Arriving on scene, deputy observed someone had forced entry into the building through the front door. Deputies cleared building. Owner of company arrived on scene and was able to provide deputies with video footage from his surveillance cameras. Deputies observed on video two males forced entry into building. Owner stated it did not appear anything was stolen.
ASSAULT
Dec. 23
7:22 p.m., Auburn Road, Chardon. OSHP Chardon post advised female came in and said she was assaulted at a house on the corner of Auburn and Mentor roads. They are asking if we can send a deputy to their post for the report. Report taken. Female chose not to file charges.
BURGLARY
Dec. 23
11:39 a.m., Kinsman Road, Middlefield. 87/528 backdoor was found wide open. Business has been closed for over a week. Owner on location; no one was inside. Forced entry into rear business door; thousands in property value was stolen (jewelry, gaming systems and other items). Subjects books are in Wickliffe, so unable to provide serial numbers or list of items taken. Subject requesting extra patrol. Only landlord has access to the building and caller already has spoken with her. Deputy advised of pending call. Report taken.
CITIZEN DISPUTE
Dec. 23
4:13 p.m., Hobart Road, Parkman. Caller states there are poachers on her property. They can hear someone shooting in the woods. Dispatch could hear the guns going off while on the phone. Caller states person at the edge of property has a “bird banger” but no gun. Caller states no one has been drinking. She believes it is the Amish neighbors on the property. Checked area. UTL anyone on the property. Extra patrol requested and passed onto next shift.
Dec. 25
4:27 p.m., GAR Highway, Chardon. Employee was asked to leave the store and he has refused to do so. He was screaming, swearing and yelling while customers were in the store. Male has not been violent, just refusing to leave. One male summoned for trespass; report to follow.
FOUND PROPERTY
Dec. 27
10:04 a.m., Madison Road, Parkman. Small gray safe sitting at the end of driveway near the highway garage. Deputy advised. Small gray 6×12 safe was returned to post and entered into evidence. No sign of forced entry was observed on the safe.
INFO REPORT
Dec. 22
9:43 a.m., Bainbridge Road, Auburn. Just want it on file. No deputy response. On Monday I saw footprints by the ditch. They came up to the side of my house, back to the ditch again, across the driveway and then went westward toward the neighbors. Just saw it in the paper there was a similar incident in Newbury on Stone Road.
JUVENILE PROBLEM
Dec. 26
10:49 a.m., Berkshire Drive, Aquilla. 4-year-old male acting out. Hit me on the hit with a dinosaur. Deputy advised. Male is a foster child with emotional/discipline issues. Advice given; referred to Ravenwood/hospital.
PROPERTY DAMAGE
Dec. 23
8:22 a.m., Chanticleer Court, Auburn. Eight cars had their tires slashed last night. Everyone will be waiting in their cars on the street. Deputy advised. Report taken.
SUSPICIOUS
Dec. 22
1:49 a.m., Kile Road, Montville. Female consumed acid and meth, being physically violent with boyfriend. Caller disconnected before more information could be obtained. No incident occurring at the residence. Possible harassment by another male. Investigation pending.
12:28 p.m., Sycamore Road, Munson. Male walking on Sycamore between Brookside and Spring Way. He is wearing a facemask and carrying an AR-15. UTL.
Dec. 26
3:35 p.m., Shedd Road, Parkman. Caller states sometime last night someone attempted to pry open four doors on his home. They did not make entry and did not take anything. Deputy observed marks or years in the weather striping on the exterior of the doors, but there were no pry marks on the doors themselves or door jams.
8:32 p.m., Rock Creek Road, Hambden. Attempted break in a caller’s house. He would like to speak with a deputy to file a report. Deputy advised. Report to follow. Someone tried to break in.
Dec. 27
3:32 p.m., Reeves Road, Parkman. Caller found a brown liquid spilled in the upstairs bedroom and money is missing from the house. Caller does not want to meet with a deputy, but wants the information documented. He has made reports in the past about someone being in his house during the overnight hours.
THEFT
Dec. 22
11:10 p.m., Aquilla Road, Claridon. Friend picked up caller, he left his guitar in the friend’s car by accident. When he noticed he called his friend and asked for it back. His friend said he didn’t know anything about it. Another friend then told the caller the guitar is at Geauga Pawn Shop. Guitar left in the friend’s car a couple weeks ago. Guitar is a Yamaha Yukele guitar. Report taken. Follow up will be conducted.
