Donald C. Holt

HAMBDEN TWP. – Donald C. Holt, age 91, of Hambden Township, died Jan. 9, 2018, at Blossom Hill Care Center.

He was born on May 17, 1926, in East Liverpool, Ohio, to Sylvester A. and Mary Ann (nee Hamilton) Holt.

Don was a graduate of Mount Union College and received his Master of Science in Earth Science from University of Notre Dame.

He was a Seaman 1st Class, Radio Operator, in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

On June 5, 1950, he married Wanda Mae (nee Moyer) in Alliance, Ohio.

Don had been a science teacher for Newbury Schools from 1959 until retiring in 1982. He also was a basketball coach, a golf coach and the club pro at Pleasant Hill Golf Course for many years. He served as an official for the Junior PGA and served on the board of the Geauga Credit Union.

Survivors include his children, Christine (Tom) Koster, of Greentown, Pa., Kathleen Turk, of Bainbridge Township, Patrick (Becky), of Freeland, Md., Kevin (Dee), of Burton Village, Terence (Tina), of Longmont, Colo., and Daniel (Char), of Mentor; 12 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

Don was preceded in death by his wife, on Sept 16, 2010; and two brothers.

The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Jan. 11 at Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., Chardon.

A “Liturgy of the Word” service will be held Jan. 12, at 11 a.m., at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 16550 Rock Creek Road, Thompson Township, followed by interment in Hambden Township Cemetery.
