Sheriff’s Report
January 18, 2018

The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office Jan. 5-11, 2018. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 391 calls during this seven-day period.

AGENCY ASSIST

Jan. 10

5:47 p.m., State Route 86, Montville. OSHP in pursuit of gray Ford Escape. It is stolen. Report taken.

ARSON

Jan. 8

7:21 p.m., Old State Road, Hambden. Male, ex-employee, came in and poured gas all over the shop. Told other workers he was going to burn the place. He left southbound in a green truck. FD is not needed. We are ventilating maybe five gallons. Four people in the shop. One male arrested. Report taken.

CITIZEN DISPUTE

Jan. 7

3:41 p.m., Cloverdale Drive, Middlefield. Neighbor refuses to return caller’s vacuum cleaner. Threating to bet up caller and her boyfriend. Both parties are separated. Vacuum was returned. Advice given to both parties about staying away from each other to keep further disputes from arising. Questionable threats were made to female through texts, but she did not believe them nor wish to pursue charges. There is also an ongoing dispute over who possible stole $300 from them. No evidence to support the theft at this time.

4:09 p.m., Plank Road, Montville. Subjects came to the house to remove their belongings. They place the couch in the front yard and attempted to set it on fire. It did not catch on fire so the subjects left the area in a truck. Will return Monday to pick up the couch left on lawn.

DISORDERLY

Jan. 5

7:24 p.m., Dewey Road, Montville. Female confronted male about a text. He took female’s phone and threw it in the snow; he then locked female outside in her bare feet. He kept pushing her out of the house; he dumped a cup of coffee on her, grabbed her by the coat and dragged her into the house. He then shoved her down, causing injury to her knee. She declined a rescue. This occurred around 3 p.m. Male still at the residence. He may be drinking now and does have a shotgun in the house. Report taken.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

Jan. 9

8:09 p.m., Cloverdale Drive, Middlefield. Male in lobby to report his teenage son punched him in the eye and pulled a pistol on his around 5:45 p.m. today. Came home and house smelled like reefer, so male confronted his son and they got into a fight. Male left on foot with the pistol in a red and black-checkered hoodie, possibly going to his buddy’s house on 422. Believe male was high. Denied needing rescue. Report to follow.

EXTRA PATROL

Jan. 5

3:37 p.m., Auburn Road, Munson. Caller would like an extra patrol for snowmobilers today/tonight and tomorrow night. Caller states they have tracks through the NDCL property and they are not allowed to ride snowmobiles there. Area checked OK at this time.

HARASSMENT

Jan. 10

7:13 p.m., Nicki Lane, Hambden. Male state subject is harassing him and his girlfriend on social media and on the phone.

JUVENILE PROBLEM

Jan. 8

10:45 a.m., Aquilla Road, Claridon. 6-year-old female is threatening caller, biting, kicking and throwing things. Caller hung up. Dispatch attempted call back and there was no answer. Mother called and advised daughter has calmed down. Her daughter has ADHD and does not like taking her meds.

Jan. 10

10:07 p.m., Leader Road, Hambden. His girlfriend’s teenage son is “acting out.” When asked what exactly he was going, the male stated, “being a typical kid.” Dispatch tried to obtain specific information. The called then stated, “Whatever! Have a nice day” and then hung up. Spoke to son as well as his mother. Son was angry about his Xbox being taken away because he was not going to school. Son also “got attitude” and used swear words. Son was talked to about his behavior and mother will call if he does not go to school tomorrow.

PROPERTY DAMAGE

Jan. 8

3:43 p.m., GAR Highway, Hambden. Caller reports her mailbox has been damaged by ODOT and she believes it is deliberate. No indication it was intentional. Advice given.

SUSPICIOUS

Jan. 6

9:46 p.m., Center Street, Chardon. Neighbor may have stolen driver’s license and emptied bank accounts. Now neighbors making threats. Sheriff’s office pulling up now. Will be attempting contact.

Jan. 7

12:25 a.m., Rock Creek Road, Thompson. Out in area looking for vehicle that was doing 30 mph and keeps going in and out of driveways. Lost the vehicle in area of Dewey and Route 166. Vehicle is southbound on Dewey heading toward 166. Report taken. One male arrested.

Jan. 10

1:47 p.m., Wing Road, Auburn. Neighbor has left letters concerning racism in the Kenston school district. Deputies advised. Neighbor was advised any letters in mailboxes need to be sealed and postage paid.

THEFT

Jan. 8

12:36 p.m., Stone Road, Newbury. Theft of a gun by her deceased son.

TRAFFIC OFFENSE

Jan. 9

7:59 p.m., Auburn Road, Auburn. Three kids on snowmobiles heading west on Washington. Green, yellow and one darker color. Damaged caller’s property. South on Munn, crossing over Taylor May. Caller states snowmobilers are splitting up. Complainant showed deputy shrub that was run over; shrub would most likely grow back. No report requested.
