Geauga Growth Partnership, Kent State University at Geauga and Leadership Geauga will present “Geauga: State of the County” at the next Geauga Economic Leadership (G.E.L.) breakfast taking place at Kent State Geauga, 14111 Claridon-Troy Road in Burton.

GEL Breakfast

Feb. 2, 7:30-9:30 a.m.

Geauga Growth Partnership, Kent State University at Geauga and Leadership Geauga will present “Geauga: State of the County” at the next Geauga Economic Leadership (G.E.L.) breakfast taking place at Kent State Geauga, 14111 Claridon-Troy Road in Burton.

VFW Warm-Up Breakfast

Feb. 4, 8 a.m. to noon

Chardon VFW Post 6519 pancake breakfasts begin Feb. 4 with a “warm-up breakfast” at the post located at 752 Water St. in Chardon. All meals will be $5 on an abbreviated menu

Regular season runs Feb. 11 through April 15, excluding Easter. Kids and senior menus are available.

Newbury Kiwanis Pancake Breakfasts

Newbury Area Kiwanis Club is serving its all-you-can-eat pancake and sausage breakfasts every Sunday in February at Newbury High School cafeteria from 8:30 am to 12:30 p.m. Cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children ages 3-12 and free for children 2 and under. Proceeds benefit scholarship funds and other community needs.

Four Chaplains Program

Feb. 4, 3 p.m.

The Atwood-Mauck American Legion will host a Four Chaplains program at the Post 459 home located at 14052 Goodwin St. in Burton. The program is open to the public.

Beginning Farmers Program

Feb. 10, 10 a.m.

The Northeast Counties Farm Bureau is offering a Beginning Farmers Program at the Farm Bureau office in Orwell, 8220 State Route 45.

The presenters are Tim Bonar, Farm Credit Mid America; Dan O’Reilly, real estate agent; Steve Kacerski, CPA; and Craig Sirna, Sirna’s Farm & Market.

Immediately following will be a social time at Woody’s Grub & Pub in Orwell. Farm Bureau will provide appetizers and soft drinks.

Protect Geauga Parks

Feb. 10, 3:30 p.m. 

Join Protect Geauga Park supporters for a “Hike into the Sunset.” Meet at the shelter at Observatory Park, 10610 Clay St. in Montville Township and hike the park trails. Return to the shelter after the hike for hot cocoa.

It is an open shelter, so dress for the weather.

Dorothy’s Porch Giveaway

Feb. 15-17

A free giveaway of clothing for the family, household items, toys, books and seasonal decorations will take place Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturday from 9-10 a.m. at Celebration Lutheran Church, 10621 Auburn Road in Chardon. All are welcome.

Soup’s On With Next Step

Feb. 15, 6-9 p.m.

The Geauga County Democratic Women’s Caucus will host “Soup’s On! Warm Up With Next Step” at the Geauga Democratic Party Headquarters and Social Hall, 12420 Kinsman Road in Newbury.

At 7 p.m., there will a presentation by Andrea Pollock, director of Next Step, a local organization that provides housing and case management services for young adults 18-24 who are homeless and at-risk.

Several soups, salads and breads will be served. A donation of $10 is suggested.

Collections for Next Step will be accepted. Items needed include: paper products, snack foods, socks, body wash and gift cards for fast food places.

CV Herb Society to meet

Feb. 16, 12:30 p.m.

The Chagrin Valley Herb Society will meet at the Bainbridge Library. Following refreshments and a business meeting, the group will dream of the upcoming gardening season by watching herb gardening videos.

Upcoming VFW Post 9678 Events

Middlefield VFW 9678 is hosting a spaghetti dinner fundraiser for

Veterans in Need on Feb. 16 from 4:30-7 p.m. at the post located at 16013 E. High St. Cost is $8 at the door or $7 presale. For more information, call the post at 440-632-1257.

Then, on March 10 at 9 a.m., the post is hosting a Seneca Allegany Casino and game bus trip. Incentives are $25 slot and $5 food. The trip is a fundraiser for Veterans in Need. Early bird cost is $30 by Feb. 10 or $35 after. For reservations and information, call Kathy at 440-228-7248.

Chili Cook-Off

March 3, 4-7 p.m.

Montville Firefighters Association is hosting a chili cook-off at Montville Community Center. There will be judged categories and popular vote. Cost is $10 for 10 sample cups. Beverage, crackers and dessert are included.

There is no entry fee. To enter, provide a minimum of 8 quarts of chili.

Beginning Beekeeping Class

March 10, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Ashtabula County Beekeepers Association is sponsoring a beginning beekeeping class at the OSU Extension Building located at 39 Wall Street, Jefferson. Topics include knowing the equipment, installing bees, hive management and much more.

Light lunch and course book provided. Cost is $15 per person.

Spring Fish Sale

April 17, 1:30-3:30 p.m.

The Geauga Soil and Water Conservation District’s annual spring fish sale will be held on the midway at the Geauga County Fairgrounds. Orders are currently being taken for fingerling-size largemouth bass, channel catfish, bluegill/sunfish mix, minnows, redear “shellcracker” sunfish, white amurs and yellow perch.
